Peter Pan, like its namesake, is a tale which never ages. Children and adults alike have all fallen under the spell of Neverland, a place where children can fly and exciting, frightening adventures happen every day.

In 1985 Piers Chater Robinson adapted J.M. Barrie's book for the stage, and now, 25 years later, his innovative Peter Pan musical score is well known and loved, performed in professional and amateur productions worldwide and is quickly becoming the most popular musical version of Peter Pan internationally. CYT is pleased to be selected as one of the first theaters in Chicagoland to produce it!

Join all your favorite characters: Peter Pan, Wendy, John, Michael, the dastardly Captain Hook and his sidekick Smee, Tiger Lily, the Lost Boys, Pirates, Neverland Indians, Fairies, Nana the pet dog and, of course, that scary crocodile as CYT travels to Neverland like you've never experienced it before.

BWW Review: WE WILL ROCK YOU at Casino De Paris
by Patrick Honor - Oct 15, 2018

We Will Rock You, originally produced by Robert De Niro and written by Ben Elton, who, building on Queen's repertoire, collaborated with the remaining members of the group roger Taylor and Brian May, was one of the first highly successful jukebox musicals.  Opening in 2002 at the huge Dominion Theatrein London, where it run for 12 years, the show traveled to the Paris Hotel in Las Vegas.  It was also a big hit in Australia, Japan and Russia.  And in 2006, it was produced in Portugal, Chilie, Argentina, Switzerland and Germany,  followed by long runs in Madrid, Vienna, Singapour and Hong-Kong.  The German language version also met with huge success in both Cologne and Stuttgart, but the Canadian production in Toronto, an obvious try-out, never made it to Broadway.  The reason clearly lies in the book, beyond silly compared to those of the now numerous other juke box musicals that hit the great white way towards the beginning of the millennium.  (more...)

BWW Review: FINDING NEVERLAND at Broadway Grand Rapids is a Magical Journey!
by Brian Hilbrand - Oct 10, 2018

Broadway Grand Rapids is proud to present Finding Neverland as it opens the season of bringing Broadway tours into Grand Rapids. This has become a staple for the Grand Rapids area even attracting audience members from surrounding states, when before if you wanted to see shows of that caliber you would have to venture into Chicago or even all the way to New York City. It has been an honor to have Broadway Grand Rapids right here in our back yard. Finding Neverland follows the story of play writer J.M. Barrie, played by Jeff Sullivan, as he struggles to come up with a new play concept after all his thoughts keep coming back to his previous works, with only minor things changed, making them the same 'old' story. This is when he goes to the park and with out realizing it right away meets Sylvia, played by Ruby Gibbs, whose husband has just passed away and her four sons, Peter (Seth Erdley), George (Paul Schoeller), Jack (Josiah Smother), and Michael (Brody Bett), in the park. BWW Review: SCHOOL OF ROCK at The Orpheum
by Chris Miritello - Oct 10, 2018

There is a moment during the closing scene of Andrew Lloyd Webber's School of Rock when the show transforms from a mere crowd pleasing musical, to a pure and unadulterated celebration. Having witnessed the young students of Horace Green Preparatory School fully evolve from disenfranchised, rule-following and generally unhappy children, to confident rock stars willing to 'stick it to the man,' the audience cannot help but leap to its feet and join the party at the top of Mount Rock. More than a local battle of the bands, it is a celebration of the importance of arts education, the power of inspiring teachers, the joys of finding one's voice, and of the mind-blowing capacity for so much talent to exist in such small bodies and at such an early age. Judging by the standing ovation that began before and continued throughout the curtain call, it is clear that the Orpheum audience was fully invested in these young characters, and that School of Rock had therefore done its job. Indeed, this culminating scene is the ultimate payoff that makes the two and a half hours that precede it entirely worth the investment. The only disappointment was that there was no after party on Beale Street. Armed with their instruments and boundless talent, something tells me that the students of Horace Green Preparatory School could most certainly have brought down the house. (more...)
