Lyric Stage Boston has announced principal casting for its 2027 production of Les Misérables. Directed by Courtney O'Connor, the musical will star De'Lon Grant as Jean Valjean, Christopher Chew as Javert, and Kristian Espiritu as Fantine.

The Venice Symphony re-elected Roger Effron as board chair and added Linda Cantrell, Bob Hite, and Samuel Stempler as new trustees, bringing expertise in finance, marketing, and education to the Florida orchestra.

Oscar and two-time GRAMMY-nominated singer-songwriter Stephen Bishop will play his first live performance in seven years, taking place at the GRAMMY Museum on Friday, October 9, at the Clive Davis Theater in Los Angeles, CA.

Based on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic 1925 novel of the same name. The Great Gatsby is set on Long Island, near New York City during the Jazz Age. The story centers on mysterious millionaire Jay Gatsby and his obsession to reunite with his former lover Daisy Buchanan. This was one of two musical adaptations to have premiered within the past couple of years. The other being Gatsby: An American Myth, which debuted in Boston in 2024.

Tanglewood has revealed the details of its 2026 season, opening in late June and continuing to Labor Day weekend. The schedule brings many of the world’s most exciting musicians to the beautiful Berkshire hills of western Massachusetts.

For the past two seasons, 14 or 15 new musicals have opened on Broadway. Even in the challenging first two seasons coming out of the pandemic, Broadway saw 8 or 9 new musicals opening. And in the last four full seasons prior to the pandemic, Broadway saw an average of 11 new musicals per season. What gives?

This gem of a production is a perfect way to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Jaws, the blockbuster that started it all.

It wasn’t until later on in theatre history that revivals began including shows that weren’t initially well received or financially successful in their initial engagements. As musical theatre continued to evolve, and more shows entered the canon, a consensus began to grow about shows being worthy of additional exploration even if they hadn’t been hits the first time around. What about musicals that had been ahead of their time, musicals that had fallen prey to circumstances, early works by writers who became successful later on, and of course, shows that found an audience after closing via their cast recordings?

Joanna Pickering's one-woman show Crash Landing is in development at The Tank, with special presentation dates. The next show will take place on December 15th at 7pm.
