An evening of song and swing awaits local music lovers as Philadelphia Theatre Company presents "The Summer Club: A Big Band Valentine's Day." Cupid shoots his arrow down music's memory lane this February 14th as audiences are transported to an era when clubs were hot, everyone dressed up and martinis came straight up. Take the Lead Dance Project will have everyone swinging in the aisles with free dance lessons before the show. Champagne cocktails will be pouring at the bar and Asher's Chocolates will provide a sweet treat to remember the night. This one-night only event takes place at Philadelphia Theatre Company at the Suzanne Roberts Theatre (480 S. Broad). Doors open at 6:00pm, with showtime at 7:00pm. Doolittle and Diana Rigg as Mrs. Higgins. In Toho Stage's return engagement of Dogfight patrons may recognize several company members. All but three actors were part of the Japanese premiere in 2015 at Theater Crea in Chiyoda. Based on the 1991 Warner Brothers film written by Bob Comfort, the musical stays faithful to the screenplay. This current revival in three cities- Osaka, Tokyo, and Nagoya­- features the all-Japanese cast in a distinctly American story set in the backdrop of the Vietnam War. (more...)

Boston Ballet Announces its 2018-19 Season

Boston Ballet Artistic Director Mikko Nissinen announces programming for the 2018-2019 season at the Boston Opera House. The season opens with Genius at Play, a celebration of Jerome Robbins' and Leonard Bernstein's 100th birthdays. Nissinen's The Nutcracker returns to enchant audiences with its beloved characters and brilliant dancing. The spring season includes an array of classical favorites and highly anticipated premieres, starting with the first world premiere by world-renowned choreographer William Forsythe created on an American company since 1992. The legendary Ogunquit Playhouse is thrilled to produce five spectacular musicals for its upcoming season that includes an all-new production of the sizzling song and dance celebration Smokey Joe's Cafe, the U.S. premiere of the hilarious new musical Grumpy Old Men, a beautiful new production of the classic Oklahoma!, and the first regional production of the sumptuous new musical An American in Paris. This year, Pacific Symphony's Gala, "On the Town," takes a bite out of the Big Apple with a splashy big-city night overflowing with champagne and elegance celebrating a major event in the orchestra's life-its prestigious Carnegie Hall debut in April, led by Music Director Carl St.Clair. Guests of this gala extravaganza will step out of their New York taxis and right onto the red carpet. A horse-drawn carriage ride through Central Park is just the beginning of an evening no one will ever forget. Once inside their final destination, Carnegie Hall, all the glamour and glitz of the 1940s awaits, as attendees are transported back to the sights and sounds of a bygone era-in anticipation of the orchestra's milestone event!
