Following a twice-extended run of My Name is Asher Lev in 2016— making it the most successful production in 1st Stage's history— 1st Stage brings another Aaron Posner and Chaim Potok adaptation to the region.

The annual Logan Festival of Solo Performance, presented with generous support from the Revada Foundation, will run at 1st Stage from July 13-23, 2023. This innovative festival will gather celebrated solo performers from across the country for two-weeks of performances, workshops, discussions, and events. The main stage festival schedule features:

The 1st Stage production of The Last Match by Anna Ziegler features Fabiolla Da Silva, Drew Kopas (previously seen in Airness), Ethan Miller (previously seen in Swimming with Whales), and Lynette Rathnam (previously seen in The Phlebotomist). The production is directed by 1st Stage Artistic Director, Alex Levy. Oz: A New Musical, is an original musical exploring the genius of L. Frank Baum and his complicated relationship with his most famous creation, the Land of Oz. This is the story of a dreamer at the dawn of a new age who reinvented the fairy tale in a distinctly American way, painting an idealized and magical vision of a world where witches might be good, and what you’re seeking is already inside you.

1st Stage has announced the 2023-2024 season.

Bajo la batuta de la directora chilena Alejandra Urrutia, el décimo concierto de la Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional (OSN) del Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes y Literatura (Inbal), se presentará los días 21 y 23 de abril, a las 20:00 y 12:15 horas, respectivamente, en la Sala Principal del Palacio de Bellas Artes, con la participación especial del joven contrabajista mexicano Jesús Bustamante. 

Alfaro takes the chilling ancient Greek tale of Medea and re-imagines it in a Los Angeles Mexican-American immigrant community. After sacrificing nearly everything to begin this new life, Medea and her family weigh their love for each other against their drive to succeed. Mojada is an intense and passionate play, full of romantic fervor, magical realism, and a tense, gripping sense of foreboding that drives the characters ever forward towards irreversible acts of love and violence.

Naxos is presenting San Francisco-based guitarist Christopher Mallett's new release championing the music of Justin Holland, America's first Black classical guitarist who made his name during the time of slavery. Titled Justin Holland, Guitar Works and Arrangements, “trailblazer' Mallett (The St. Louis Dispatch) deftly performs on this landmark recording featuring several world premieres.

The second half of this year-long residency of intimate concerts continues on 11 March.  Members of the Philharmonia have formed ensembles and selected music to reflect the themes of the changing exhibitions at Cromwell Place.

Casting has been announced for the world premiere at York Theatre Royal of the new musical Mayflies, written and composed by award-winning composer, lyricist and songwriter Gus Gowland, a resident artist at the theatre.

BACK TO BACH will feature Anita Tomasevich (piano) and Olivera Rialas (violin) at Agrovino Wine Bar Lofou. The performance is on Thursday 23 March at 8pm.

One of the region's most famous mansions will again host a famous Greystone Hall and the Colonial Playhouse of Delaware County present the 2023 production of The Manor, a two-act play by Kathrine Bates, directed by Sam Barrett. 

After two years of an online-only hiatus due to the pandemic, Toronto’s annual Winterfolk Blues and Roots Festival is back IRL, baby, for its 21st Anniversary! The festival, which features a change of neighborhood this year to Kensington Market, will showcase some of the most talented blues and roots acts performing over the course of two nights.

School Time Theater Series - Freedom Bound comes to Topeka Performing Arts Center next week. Performances are on January 25.
