New York Youth Symphony Announces Its 57th Season Of Concerts And Venues

New York Youth Symphony (NYYS), is proud to continue its mission of educating and inspiring young musicians through its Orchestra, Jazz, Chamber Music, Composition, Musical Theater Composition, Apprenticeship Conducting, and First Music commissioning programs. This season includes seven world premieres of new works commissioned through the First Music program, composed for the Orchestra, Jazz, and Chamber Music ensembles. The season also features renowned and up-and-coming soloists including prodigy pianist Harmony Zhu, 2019 Sphinx Competition winner cellist Sterling Elliott, and leading young pianist Michelle Cann in the Carnegie Hall premiere of Florence Price's recently re-discovered Piano Concerto in One Movement with NYYS Orchestra, as well as in-demand drummer Matt Wilson, celebrated saxophonist Steve Wilson, and trombone virtuoso Wycliffe Gordon with NYYS Jazz. Independent Venue Week Wraps Second US Edition, Announces 2020 Event Dates

Returning for its third US edition Independent Venue Week has announced that next year's event will take place from July 6-12, 2020. With support from Independent Venue Week's partners, including exclusive ticketing partner Eventbrite, the event grew tremendously in its second American iteration, from 20 venues in 20 cities in 2018 to more than 80 venues across more than 50 cities in 2019. 'In Independent Venue Week's second year, our goal was to increase awareness for both the venues and this national initiative,' says Rev. Moose, Managing Partner of Marauder, the producers of the US event, 'Throughout the event we met with independent venue owners and promoters from around the country talking about their specific needs. Moving forward, we hope to have Independent Venue Week be a gathering opportunity for one focused week and a form of support for the rest of the year.'

The Morris Choral Society is pleased to announce that soprano Christina Major will perform as featured soloist in its upcoming Spring Concert "Greatest Hits from Opera and Broadway" in two performances Saturday May 18 at 8:00pm and Sunday May 19 at 3:00pm at the historic United Methodist Church on the Green in Morristown, New Jersey. The Solti Foundation released its 2019 Career Assistance Awards today, raising the number of Career Assistance Awards the organization has granted since turning its focus to exclusively assisting young American conductors in 2004 to 78. Penny Van Horn, Board Chair of The Solti Foundation U.S. and Elizabeth Buccheri, Artistic and Awards Committee Chair, announced the names of the ten recipients of the 2019 Solti Foundation Career Assistance Awards. The young conductors work throughout the United States, and abroad, and hold posts in California, Illinois, Missouri, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Texas, Tennessee, Utah,Washington, Wyoming, and abroad in Brazil and Canada.
