Altadena Music Theatre announced its 2026 summer season with productions of GREASE and LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS, performed at a temporary outdoor venue at the Mountain View Mausoleum after the Eaton Fire displaced the company.

What is a pro-shot and how is it different than an adapted film? Pro-shot is an abbreviation for professionally shot, denoting a stage play that was captured in its native habitat: a theatre. In general, a pro-shot seeks to film the exact experience that audience members would have at a live performance of the show, in contrast with a feature film which actually adapts the piece into a new form, including different locations, the removal of theatrical aesthetic, and changes to make the script work as a film as opposed to as a live theatrical show.

During and prior to the Golden Age of Broadway, songs regularly premiered on stage and then charted, spending time on the radio and becoming popular worldwide. In the 1960s, Broadway songs and popular music diverged, and work from musicals was no longer synonymous with chart hits. There have certainly been a good share of exceptions since that decade, as Broadway has evolved to mirror popular, current music genres. Broadway currently boasts 41 theaters. This number has always been ever-changing—since even before the first time the word “Broadway” was used to describe professional theater in New York.

The catchy doo-wop and early rock n’ roll style of music alongside the fashion and other paraphernalia of the the 1950s give a nostalgic feeling for this classic show, but this production of Grease still has a necessary edge to make this show successful.
