Little Shop of Horrors, the musical version of the 1960 cult film classic, has been as indestructible as Audrey II, its ravenous man-eating, soul music-loving plant. The 1986 remake, starring Rick Moranis, was the basis for the Broadway musical, which actually got its start before the Moranis remake, in an Off-Broadway production four years earlier. Since it finally reached Broadway in 2003, it has become a mainstay in regional and community theatre. The show's success can be traced to its Alan Menken/Howard Ashman score, a love letter to early '60s pop styles, including doo-wop, Motown, soul, and Phil Spector girl groups (the three-female members of the Greek chorus that hover in nearly every scene are named Crystal, Ronette, and Chiffon in Spector's honor).

BroadwayWorld is saddened to report that stage and screen actress Dame Maggie Smith has died at age 89. Perhaps best known for her screen roles in the Harry Potter film series and Downton Abbey, Smith also had several stage credits to her name, and won a Tony Award in 1990.

Two principal cast members for the Australian tour of the award-winning Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre production of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s celebrated rock musical JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR have been revealed.

Self-made pop artist Slayyyter has released her first single of 2024, “No Comma.” The single follows on the heels of her deluxe anniversary capsule announcement, celebrating five years of her debut mixtape Slayyyter. 

Leah Jane, the soulful voice emerging from Toronto, shares her highly anticipated EP, Nottingham Drive. The final track, “The Fury,” stands out as the only song not released ahead of time as a pre-release single, offering fans a raw and infatuating listening experience.

For the eighth year the concert From Broadway to Duvemåla goes on tour with musical songs in Sweden. On stage this year we see Malena Tuvung, Emmi Christensson (played Christine in Phantom of the Opera in West End) and John Martin Bengtsson (played Phantom in Phantom of the opera in Copenhagen, Kristianstad and Stockholm) again and for the first time Linda Pritchard and Martin Redhe Nordh joins the team. A quintet that complemented each other well and created a good musical dynamic for this year's set.
