Two local students are on their way to New York City next month to compete in the National High School Musical Theatre Awards - also known as the Jimmy Awards - representing Palm Beach County. The students will also experience a weeklong musical theater intensive with Broadway artists, thanks to being selected the top student performers at the second annual Kravis Center Dream Awards.

I had the pleasure of seeing A Bronx Tale with my friend Cassy, who had NEVER seen a musical before! (I know, right?!) I invited Cassy because the 1993 movie, off which the musical is based, is her favorite. Seriously, her cat is named Calogero, after the lead character in both the movie and the play. I was excited to see this show, and especially excited to see it through the eyes of a neophyte theater goer. I was not disappointed!

In just over a week, Lyric Arts will open their newest production, Evita, on March 22. This show has been the show I have been most excited for since it was announced last year. Full disclosure, I used to work at Lyric Arts and immediately called Laura, their Artistic and Executive Director, to both congratulate her and beg her to let me play Eva. Of course, we laughed about it and I still let her know, almost monthly, that I'm ready to jump into the role if anything happens.

As a performer she just completed a star turn in Gulf View Drive at Washington Stage Guild (WSG), the company she helped found back in 1986.
