Pittsburgh CLO will launch its second New Musicals Weekend, a project of the Next Generation Campaign's New Small Musicals Initiative. New Musicals Weekend, the mini version of the SPARK festival, takes the core goals of SPARK and puts them into action over just a few days. The Independent Reviewers of New England (IRNE) today announced the nominees for the 23rd Annual IRNE Awards, which honor the best of the previous year's actors, directors, choreographers, designers and companies across the full spectrum of large, mid-size and fringe theater companies. Moulin Rouge!, a new musical produced by Global Creatures, and An American in Paris, produced by the Ogunquit Playhouse, led with 12 and 11 nominations, respectively, in the Large Stage Musical Category. Caitlin Cassidy and Nadine Malouf Collaborate on New Play in NYC

Two alumnae of the Franklin School for the Performing Arts (FSPA) are working together once again in New York City on the world premiere of LubDub Theatre Company's A Play for the Living in a Time of Extinction. The new play by Miranda Rose Hall (currently in-development) is a new solo theatre and music performance starring Malouf that grapples with being a human in a time of mass extinction. This project is being developed through an ongoing two-year residency with the Orchard Project's NYC Greenhouse. Both Malouf and Cassidy trained at the Franklin School for the Performing Arts in acting, singing, and dancing, toured with Electric Youth, and performed with the Franklin Performing Arts Company. Love is in the air this Valentine's Day, and Skylight Music Theatre is celebrating by announcing the leads for Kiss Me, Kate, running May 17 June 9, 2019. The cast will be led by R na Roman playing Kate/Lilli Vanessi and Andrew Varela as Petruchio/Fred Graham. Kiss Me, Kate sizzles with onstage romance and backstage passion. It won the very first Tony Award for Best Musical and features such unforgettable songs as So in Love, Another Op'nin', Another Show, Why Can't You Behave? and Too Darn Hot. Blending the irreverent humor of William Shakespeare and Cole Porter, this brilliant battle of the sexes follows a tempestuous couple as they struggle to present a musical version of Taming of the Shrew.
