AN EVENING WITH C.S. LEWIS Comes to Montalvo In Saratoga

Renowned actor David Payne will portray author C.S. Lewis in 'An Evening with C.S. Lewis,' presented by the Montalvo Arts Center as part of its ongoing Carriage House Concert Series. In this delightful evening, the novelist, poet, essayist, academic, literary critic, and broadcaster has agreed to host a group of curious Americans in his simple house outside Oxford. What ensues is an enthralling performance that has captivated audiences worldwide. Full of humor, this dramatic solo shows offers a fascinating and highly entertaining insight into the man who penned more than 30 works including The Screwtape Letters, The Space Trilogy, and The Chronicles of Narnia. This performance will offer special resonance to attendees of the Bruce Munro at Montalvo: Stories in Light exhibit, which was inspired by Lewis' Chronicles of Narnia. 'An Evening with C.S. Van Wezel Foundation Names Cheryl Mendelson New CEO

Board Chair Mike Martella made the announcement today that Mendelson will take the helm in February, bringing more than 25 years of fundraising, business development, and strategic planning to the Foundation.

On Saturday, February 2, 2019, Sarasota Opera will present the 2019 Opera Gala "A Jeweled Affair - An Evening of Glamour and Glitz," a jewel-themed event which kicks off the 2019 Winter Opera Festival. The black-tie evening at the Ritz Carlton-Sarasota will begin with cocktails and hors d'oeuvres, during which two silent auctions will take place, featuring curated jewelry from donors' private collections and a selection of exotic travel packages. After the cocktail hour, there will be a performance by Sarasota Opera principal artists, followed by a four-course dinner created by the Ritz Carlton culinary team. The ballroom will be decorated in hues of gold, with towering jewel-toned flower arrangements. After dinner, guests will light up the dance floor to the music of the Scott Blum Band. Tickets for the event are $325 per person. All proceeds benefit Sarasota Opera.

The Israel Philharmonic Orchestra makes its much anticipated Sarasota debut on Thursday, February 7, 2019 at 8 p.m., featuring Maestro Zubin Mehta as he takes on his final tour with the IPO before stepping down as the orchestra's music director in 2019. The program includes Partos' "Concertino for Strings," Schubert's "Symphony No. 3" and Tchaikovsky's "Symphony No. 6" ("Pathetique") on the Van Wezel stage! Chronicling the lives of two sisters in a Brazilian fishing village who are struggling to find their own happily-ever-after while bound to family honor and tradition, the play incorporates traditional Brazilian folklore and lyrical storytelling to weave a magical tale of love, fate and transformation. The River Bride received its world premiere in 2016 at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, and has been performed at the Arizona Theatre Company, Halycon Theatre and Su Teatro over the past three years.

Previously performed as isolated holiday-themed performances, this is the first time that When X Meets Y is getting its own full multi-week run.
