There's no better way to introduce your family to the wonders of live theatre than with the magic, the mystery, the memory of Cats. What began as a musical about cats after Andrew Lloyd Webber picked up a book of poems in an airport bookshop has become one of the longest running shows in Broadway's history. Winner of seven Tony Awards including Best Musical, Cats features 20 of Andrew Lloyd Webber's timeless melodies, including the hit song 'Memory.' What did the critics think of Drew McOnie's new production?

Review: WGRUV HIGHLIGHTS at Homecoming Centre

South Africa: Judith Herbig • August 29, 2026

The production spoke to me through its beautiful choreography, simplicity and emotional clarity, proving that you don’t need to understand dance technique to connect with its meaning. The standout pieces, playful humour, lyrical movement and powerful percussion made for an exciting and deeply moving evening.

New Zealand: Jude Gair-Ah Siu • August 29, 2026

Following international success in Australia and Singapore, the rabbit hole to Wonderland has opened up in Auckland with an acrobatic adventure in Cirque Alice. The Civic was packed, with rabbit ears worn proudly on people's heads and girls with blonde curls and blue dresses. Auckland was ready for a touch of madness, and that is exactly what was delivered.

Review: MAGIC MOMENT OF RECORDING HISTORY

Review: MAGIC MOMENT OF RECORDING HISTORY

Maine: Carla Maria Verdino-Süllwold • August 29, 2026

The 2010 jukebox musical MILLION DOLLAR, QUARTET by Colin Escott and Floyd Mutrux celebrates an impromptu moment in recording history when the legends Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, and Jerry  Lee Lewis found themselves together in the studio of Sun Records. The jam session that followed was captured on an historic 1956 recording, and the story of that chance meeting forms the basis of the musical. Maine State Music Theatre co-produces with the Public Theatre in whose intimate space the explosive energy of this rock ‘n’ roll quartet is all-embracing and irresistible. Escott and Mutrux’s book is one of the better constructed among jukebox musicals in that it creates some true drama and back story for each of the artists portrayed. The score is a veritable soundtrack of early hillbilly and rock ‘n’ roll music and some of the greatest hits of each of these artists. The show requires virtually  all of the actors to be musicians who play live on stage. The company does not disappoint, and under the music and stage direction of Scott Moreau, they recreate a sense of the spontaneity, electricity, and sheer dynamism of musical moment. What did our critic think of MAGIC MOMENT OF RECORDING HISTORY at MSMT & Public Theatre?

When I went to see Jonathan Erlandson Magic at the Historic Malco Theatre in downtown Hot Springs, the magic wasn't just theatrical, it was happening right in front of my eyes! And despite watching very closely, I still have absolutely no idea how he did any of it!

Review: BUDDY THE BUDDY HOLLY STORY at Drury Lane Theatre Oakbrook Terrace, IL

Chicago: Tina St. Angelo • August 28, 2026

The current production at the Drury Lane Theatre in Oakbrook Terrace is Buddy: the Buddy Holly Story. It was the first of the jukebox musicals premiering in 1989.  It was conceived and written in England. It ran in London’s West End for 12 years. An interesting fact: Paul McCartney holds the copyright to Buddy’s music. He supported the idea and the show was produced.
