The first live standings have been announced for the 2022 BroadwayWorld Connecticut Awards! Nominations were reader-submitted and now our readers get to vote for their favorites.

Opening on Wednesday, May 22 and running through June 16, Ivoryton Playhouse presents the beautiful and uplifting musical, GODSPELL.  GODSPELL began as John Michael Tebelak's master thesis at Carnegie Mellon University with lyrics taken directly from the Episcopal Hymnal. Stephen Schwartz, also from Carnegie Mellon, was hired to write a new score, adding original songs to the modernized hymns.

A CHORUS LINE, the hit musical about dancers auditioning for a Broadway show played for 6,137 performances in its original run and, depending on who you ask, there are numerous reasons for that. First, and foremost, audiences connected with the people on stage and their experiences. They saw their own wishes and dreams played out through the diverse and talented group of people assembled. The second reason is because it offers a unique variety of energetic musical numbers (with some amazing dancing, naturally) interspersed with dramatic monologues that get at the heart of the human condition. And third, and probably most importantly - it is simply a wildly entertaining musical. Dust off your leather jackets, pull on your bobby-socks and take a trip to a simpler time as Danny and Sandy fall in love all over again at the Ivoryton Playhouse. Opening on July 5th and running through July 29th, GREASE, BY Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey,  features all the unforgettable songs from the hit movie including "You're The One That I Want", "Grease Is The Word", "Summer Nights", "Hopelessly Devoted To You", "Greased Lightnin'" and many more.

With a book by Harvey Fierstein, music and lyrics by Jerry Herman and under the direction of Maura Hanlon (who must also be recognized and praised for her work on this summer's Failure: A Love Story), Cape Rep's of La Cage Aux Folles allows audiences the privilege of understanding why the original Broadway production of Fierstein's epic musical was the winner of six Tony's, and why this theater group's ambition to present fantastic pieces of theater and risk in undertaking such a challenging (and costly!) show has once again proven that the conclusion of its 30th Anniversary season is just as impressive and praise-worthy as its start. Not only do the costumes and choreography provide the glitz and gleam that essentially describes the very core of this show, but the actors themselves provide a tangible "spunk" to this production that demands itself to be released amongst sometimes unsuspecting audience members. Having been the first time I have seen this show myself and not knowing more than a simple synopsis of what was to come, I am elated that Cape Rep has shown me the beauty there is to be found in a musical that not only demands the acceptance of human individuality through an engaging and catchy score, but also proves that men can look and dance like a million bucks in a tight dress and pair of heels.
