Lakewood Theatre Company opens its 67th season with Roald Dahl's Matilda, the Musical. The music and lyrics for Matilda are by Tim Minchin and the book, adapted from Roald Dahl's Matilda, is by Dennis Kelly.

Now, through August 18, audiences at Crossville's Cumberland County Playhouse have the opportunity to fall in love with Matilda and her ragtag and inspiring band of schoolmates as they take on an adventure that is certain to delight and to engage. Let me admit when I saw MATILDA on Broadway in 2013 (winner of 5 Tony Awards), I did not enjoy it. I just could not understand the character of the buffoon Miss Trunchbell, the Olympian hammer throwing athletic principal of Matilda's school. He was the villain of all villains.
