Review: LIFE OF PI at Hobby Center For The Performing Arts
by Armando Urdiales - Aug 21, 2025

Brilliant projections, realistic animal puppetry, and a cast that seems to do the impossible are currently at the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts in Lolita Chakrabarti and Yann Martel's Life of Pi. The production, while a visual wonder to behold, is also one of the most head-scratching and perplexing forms of play to grace a Houston stage this summer.

Review: LIFE OF PI at Belk Theater
by Perry Tannenbaum - Aug 18, 2025

Lolita Chakrabarti, in her stage adaptation of LIFE OF PI seems to wish for a more delicate balance between the veracity of Pi’s two different tales of his harrowing sea adventure. Yet all the Award-winning artifices of puppetry, lighting, and projection that accompany his more fantastical version make us want to believe Pi’s unrevised story more and more.

Review: LIFE OF PI Comes to Vibrant Life at OC's Segerstrom Center
by Michael Quintos - Jun 6, 2025

There is definitely an easy-to-surmise draw behind the now-touring version of the Tony Award-winning play LIFE OF PI, now currently enchanting audiences at OC's Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa through June 15, 2025. Filled with innovative visual trickery and remarkable, human-powered puppetry, this impressive, great-looking drama—playwright Lolita Chakrabarti's admirable stage adaptation of Yann Martel's bestselling novel—wows with its non-stop eye-popping theatrics that combine technical cleverness with breathtaking human physicality. And though the play's central narrative conceit—teen boy gets stuck on a lifeboat with a tiger—is fairly simple, its dazzling execution is its primary, most valid reason to experience this play in person.
