Theatre Three’s Every Brilliant Thing is sheer brilliance

Danish contemporary jazz guitarist, composer and improviser Kristian Borring will next month release a new album 'Earth Matters' by Number Junky - a trio based in Perth, Western Australia which features Australian musicians Zac Grafton on double bass, Peter Evans on drums, as well as New York-based pianist Fabian Almazan on selected tracks.

The ever-adventurous Miller Theatre presents a full season of in-person programming for the first time since before the pandemic. Executive Director Melissa Smey, lauded for the integrity of her curating, has produced an invigorating season featuring four classic Miller series: Composer Portraits, Early Music, Bach, and Jazz.

Theatre Three, in association with Response Crisis Center, presents the Long Island premiere of Every  Brilliant Thing, written by Duncan MacMillan, with Jonny Donahoe.

Jazz composer-pianist Vijay Iyer will perform May 21 at Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts. 

It's been a long two years since Covid-19 shut down the Philadelphia Clef Club of Jazz & Performing Arts (PCC), but the city's highly-lauded music arts institution will celebrate its official grand reopening on Saturday, April 23 at 7:30 p.m. with a concert featuring school alum and Germantown native Jonathan Blake and his new band Pentad.

Port Jefferson’s Theatre Three has cracked open their hairspray cans, turned on their radios, and opened up an absolutely fabulous production of Robert Harling’s Steel Magnolias running now through May 7.

Port Jefferson’s Theatre Three indeed has a hit with their current offering The Marvelous Wonderettes. Running through March 26th, the adorable production is superbly directed by Long Island theatre vet Linda May. This show hasn’t been on Broadway, per se, but it did have two off-Broadway runs in 2008 and 2016 well as inspiring several spin-offs. There have been many local productions of this show and it’s easy to understand why: it is a fun, nostalgic show.

Today, NYC Winter Jazzfest, Berklee Institute for Jazz and Gender Justice, The New School, and M³ (Mutual Mentorship for Mentorships) announce their new joint initiative This Is A Movement: Towards Liberation, a movement aiming to create a more equitable music industry - particularly in the jazz and creative space  - through the lens of an intersectional Black feminist provocation.

The show is wonderful to begin with; there is no doubt about that. Theatre Three's 37th annual production of the iconic Charles Dickens tale A Christmas Carol has certainly become a beautiful tradition on Long Island. Even with slight changes throughout the years, this ageless production is as spectacular as ever. Jeffrey Sanzel, the Artistic Director of the Port Jefferson venue celebrating its 51st season, directs the dazzling play running through December 26th.

Chamber Music America (CMA), the national network for ensemble music professionals, today announced the distribution of $1,290,450 through its six grant programs.

On Thursday, August 19, 2021 at 7:30pm, the pioneering International Contemporary Ensemble and composer and multi-instrumentalist Tyshawn Sorey will be presented as part of NYC FREE, a new one-time-only multidisciplinary festival at Little Island. The Ensemble and Sorey will perform the composer's 45-minute Autoschediasms.

By September 2020, Stevens was hunkering down in his wife’s family's hometown of Pittsburgh, still busy with adjunct teaching (virtually) at Baltimore’s Peabody Institute while navigating his way through the crisis.

As trending in the greater jazz community, creative women earned significant recognition: Composer-orchestra leader Maria Schneider, whose album Data Lords (ArtistShare) is Record of the Year, and drummer-producer educator Terri Lyne Carrington, Jazz Musician of the Year, won multiple awards. Women prevailed in several other instrumentalists' categories, too.
