This coming Saturday, October 23 is officially Tin Pan Alley Day in NYC. As a physical destination, Tin Pan Alley is five buildings at 47-55 W. 28th St. near the Flatiron building in the neighborhood called “NoMad,” north of Madison Square Park. But Tin Pan Alley is much more than a physical destination. It is a state of mind. It is the spot where the American music industry was born. From the 1890s to around 1910, this block of publishing houses and agent’s offices was where you went if you had written a song that you wanted the world to hear it. Many of our most illustrious Broadway composers got their start plugging songs in the offices of Tin Pan Alley including Irving Berlin, George Gershwin, and Jerome Kern.

The Mabel Mercer Foundation, led by KT Sullivan shows resilience as it evolves with the changing times and pandemic needs, presenting streaming and live performances for the 2021 Cabaret Convention.

The Tin Pan Alley American Popular Music Project in collaboration with the Flatiron 23rd Street Partnership will present a free, outdoor public concert at the Flatiron North Plaza on 23rd Street/Broadway on Saturday, October 23, 2021 from 12:00 Noon to 4:00 PM.

BIRDLAND THEATER will present Klea Blackhurst: “One of the Girls: the Words and Music of Jerry Herman” for three shows from Wednesday, October 20 through Friday, October 22 at 8:30 PM. Blackhurst turns her long association with Broadway’s Jerry Herman into a brand new concert, her first new show in almost eight years.

The Tin Pan Alley American Popular Music Project in collaboration with the Flatiron 23rd Street Partnership will present a free, outdoor public concert at the Flatiron North Plaza on 23rd Street/Broadway on Saturday, October 23, 2021 from 12:00 Noon to 4:00 PM. The event will feature more than two dozen leading performers of Tin Pan Alley music and the Great American Songbook. The rain date is Sunday, October 24.

BIRDLAND THEATER will present Christina Bianco in her new show “A Lot to Unpack” on Friday, October 15 and Saturday, October 16 at 8:30 PM. Her bags are packed for London but before she leaves her hometown this globetrotting, genre-crossing, multi-voiced, multi-wig-wearing funny girl has some serious unpacking to do.

Mark William returned to his home turf, The Green Room 42, on Saturday night for the first time in 18 months.

BIRDLAND will present Amanda Green & Friends “Vaxxed AF!” on Monday, October 4 at 7:00 PM. Tony Award-nominated lyricist/composer and award-winning performer Amanda Green will be joined by some amazing Broadway friends, including Darius de Haas, Ann Harada, Lesli Margherita, Curtis Moore, Natalie Douglas, and Dan Finnerty of The Dan Band.

Broadway Records announced today the release of THE RAINBOW LULLABY, the world’s first LGBTQ lullaby album. Conceived by Ryan Bauer-Walsh, the recording includes songs by fifteen LGBTQIA+ writers including Bauer-Walsh, Marc Shaiman (Hairspray) and Debra Barsha (Radiant Baby), with performances by over thirty LGBTQIA+ artists.

The Desert's Premiere Concert Event just got starrier with the addition of Lucie Arnaz to the incredible cast of 26 celebrated Broadway Veterans! Michael Childers’ star-studded musical production of One Night Only “Back to the ’70s” will be presented on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at 6:00 p.m., at the McCallum Theatre for the Performing Arts. This year’s show benefits Barbara Sinatra Children’s Center, which is celebrating its 35th anniversary. One Night Only is now in its 15th successful year as one of the Desert’s most thrilling theatrical evenings.

After fifteen months of unwanted hiatus, host/producer Jim Caruso brought his notorious 'Cast Party' back to it's home on the Birdland stage. July 5 marked the return of the wildly popular weekly open mic/variety show that has been bringing Broadway glitz and urbane wit to the historic music room every Monday since 2004.

Fifteen months off of the stage certainly hasn't diminished their light, their talent, or their on stage instincts. Ms. Mosher and Mr. Caruso are back, they're in fine form, and they are rarin' to go.
