The new DC area theatre season begins in September. Over 50 shows are opening in our professional and community theatres. But before we move on to the new season and what's opening in September, let's look back at my personal favorite musicals, plays, and performances in both musicals and plays in the DC area - from August 2010 to August 2011.

I'm reminded of the old joke: It's only funny till someone gets hurt; then it's hilarious. Jacobean audiences liked the stage littered with corpses at the end; we settle for one or two corpses and people's lives shattered. And that this show certainly delivers. There may not be much depth to it, much in the way of a philosophical point, but it's absorbing to see.

Secrets unfold when the Levay brothers bring their girlfriends to the family's luxurious Martha's vineyard summer home to meet their parents in Lydia Diamond's 'Stick Fly,' now at Baltimore's Everyman Theatre.

This summer, Teatro101 proudly presents Side Show, the rarely producedBroadway cult musical about the famous Hilton Siamese twins. The 'freak show' opens August12 th and runs through September 4, 2010.
