Review: THE WEDDING SINGER at Warner Theatre

On Friday, April 17th, I had the pleasure of seeing a phenomenal show at the Warner (specifically the Nancy Marine Studio Theatre) in Torrington, CT, THE WEDDING SINGER, based on the 1998 movie that is set in 1985. The book for this stage adaptation of the film written by Chris Herlihy is written by Chad Beguelin and Chris Herlihy, with music by Matthew Sklar and lyrics by Chad Beguelin. Director and choreographer Travis Kendrick-Castanho combines his strong directing talents with those of the associate Emily Rafala and the musical director Nate McCuin to help bring out the best in this first-rate cast! Without exception, every lead and ensemble cast member absolutely excels in his or her role or roles!

The Academy Players Of Rhode Island’s musical production of ‘The Wedding Singer’ by Matthew Sklar and Chad Beguelin was a blast from the past and an absolute joy to watch from start to finish. Review: THE WEDDING SINGER at Seacoast Repertory Theatre

With neon lighting, big hair, shoulder pads, and swagger, the Seacoast Repertory Theatre is journeying back to 1985, a time of change when the first mobile phones are big, bulky, and carried proudly by the upward moving yuppies of the time.

BWW Review: THE WEDDING SINGER at DESERT STAGES THEATRE Parties Like It's 1986

When you think of a group of young performers doing a musical, most people enter with the assumption of low quality and newbie type talent. This largely stems from the mindset of not believing young folks can put in the same hard work as any other seasoned professional. However, when you take a group of hard-working individuals, like the ones I was given the opportunity to see, and pair them with extremely talented leadership, you find yourself with a recipe for greatness. Desert Stages production of The Wedding Singer is a prime example of why we should hold our young actors to higher expectations and treat them like the professionals they strive to be.

BWW Review: DADA WOOF PAPA HOT at About Face Theatre

In DADA WOOF PAPA HOT, now in its Chicago premiere at About Face Theatre, playwright Peter Parnell explores that nagging question of what it means to have it all. The play centers on a gay couple and their circle of friends. Though Alan (Bruch Reed) and Rob (Benjamin Sprunger) have been together for fifteen years, they've been married for a much shorter period of time and must navigate their shifting identities as partners and as parents of their three-year-old daughter, Nicola. (The play's seemingly nonsensical title refers to her first words and attempt at her parents' names.) The characters in DADA WOOF PAPA HOT are clearly well-off, but that doesn't make the ways in which they struggle with the challenges of daily life and parenthood any less human.
