PlayGround, the Bay Area's (and now Los Angeles') leading playwright incubator, will mark the opening of its twenty-fifth season with a special one-night gala celebration and performance, and the launch of a bold new partnership. In collaboration with NYC-based The 24 Hour Plays, PlayGround will present the inaugural The 24 Hour Plays: Bay Area, featuring fully produced and performed (i.e., off-book) performances of six original ten-minute plays by distinguished PlayGround alumni, written and developed over just twenty-four hours, and staged by an all-star cast of leading local directors and actors on Monday, September 17, at

The animated adult series ANIMALS. returns for its ten-episode third season FRIDAY, AUG. 3 (11:30 p.m.-midnight ET/PT), exclusively on HBO. From Duplass Brothers Productions, the show was created by Phil Matarese & Mike Luciano.

Tickets go onsale today, July 16, for The New Group's The True. Directed by Scott Elliott, The True begins performances September 4 in advance of an Official Opening Night on September 20. A limited Off-Broadway engagement is slated through October 21 at The Pershing Square Signature Center (The Alice Griffin Jewel Box Theatre, 480 West 42nd Street).

The New Group has announced full casting for Sharr White's The True, with Austin Cauldwell, Glenn Fitzgerald and John Pankow joining, as previously announced, Edie Falco, Michael McKean and Peter Scolari in this world premiere production launching the company's 2018-2019 Season.

This morning, Samira Wiley (“The Handmaid's Tale,” “Orange Is the New Black”) and Ryan Eggold (“New Amsterdam,” “BlackKklansman”) announced the nominations for the 70TH PRIMETIME EMMY AWARDS from the WOLFTheatre at the Television Academy's Saban Media Center. 

Farmers Alley Theatre is closing its historic 10th anniversary season with the biggest musical production ever, Mel Brooks' record-setting 12 Time Tony Award Winning comedic masterpiece, THE PRODUCERS. Running July 20th to August 5th at the Little Theatre on Oakland Drive, this pitch-perfect adaptation of Brooks' classic film of the same name will star Stephen Wallem (TV's Nurse Jackie) and Tony Humrichouser (WMU Alum, Jeff Award Winner) as the lovable duo of Max Bialystock and Leo Bloom, who attempt to produce the worst show in Broadway history!

According to Variety, the previously announced film prequel to the HBO crime drama series The Sopranos, has found its director in Alan Taylor, a veteran director of the series.

Bush's war on terror and response to Hurricane Katrina, Barack Obama's presidential election and the financial crisis, hip-hop's rise to dominance and a creative renaissance in television.

Bay Street Theater & Sag Harbor Center for the Arts is pleased to announce additional entertainment for Some Enchanted Evening, the 27th Annual Summer Gala in Sag Harbor on the Long Wharf on July 7, 2018. The company's season continues in Fall 2018 with Clueless, The Musical, by Amy Heckerling, with choreography by Kelly Devine, directed by Kristin Hanggi; followed in Winter 2019 by Jeremy O. Harris' 'Daddy,' a co-production with Vineyard Theatre, directed by Danya Taymor, featuring Alan Cumming; and in Spring 2019, Jesse Eisenberg's Yea, Sister!, directed by Scott Elliott.
