American Conservatory Theater announced an updated lineup and performance schedule that will comprise the theater organization’s upcoming season. Tony Award-nominated Producer Matthew Weaver (Rock of Ages) and Jeffrey Tick (former owner of Broadway's Helen Hayes Theater), alongside new general producing partner Richard Gay (5Pack Entertainment founder, and former EVP of Viacom's Music Networks & BET Networks) announce the creative team and producing team for the Broadway-bound musical SOUL TRAIN, inspired by the iconic television series created and hosted by Don Cornelius. SOUL TRAIN will feature a trailblazing creative team with 2019 Tony Award Nominated and MacArthur Genius Grant-winning playwright Dominique Morisseau (Ain't Too Proud, The Detroit Project), the Apollo Theater's Kamilah Forbes (By the Way, Meet Vera Stark; The Mountaintop, Assoc.) as director, and 2019 Tony Award Nominee Camille A. Brown (Choir Boy, Emmy-winning Jesus Christ Superstar on NBC; Tony-winning revival of Once on This Island) as choreographer. The production is planning a Broadway premiere in 2021 in celebration of the landmark series' 50th Anniversary.

The new partnership, to begin operations on September 5th, will continue to supply executive producer and general management services to a variety of theatrical productions including Mamma Mia!, Billy Elliot, the upcoming musicals this season of Bonnie and Clyde, Ghost, the revival of EVITA and the play Magic/Bird. Future productions include several new musicals and plays in development; among these Empire, Viva Forever, Mad Hot Ballroom, and Motown, based on the life of Berry Gordy, Jr.

Universal Pictures Stage Productions, Working Title Films and Old Vic Productions celebrated the opening of the 2009 Tony Award-winning Best Musical Billy Elliot the Musical at the Durham Performing Arts Center. The show, currently playing through November 14, 2010, celebrated their opening week with a kickoff party at Pops, a local Durham restaurant, on Sunday evening. Joining the company were director Stephen Daldry, writer and lyricist Lee Hall, American Idol-runner up Clay Aiken along with other producers and show management.
