BWW Review: JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR at ACT Of Connecticut

On Friday, April 1, I had the pleasure of seeing the ACT of CT’s unique adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR. This 1971 musical that is primarily told through music with lyrics by Tim Rice has been redesigned and reinterpreted by the director, Daniel C. Levine who has incorporated elements of The Handmaid’s Tale into this adaptation.

Emma Dennis Edwards' FUNERAL FLOWERS Embarks on UK Tour

After hugely successful runs at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2018 (winning a Fringe First), the Bunker Theatre and the Roundhouse, Emma Dennis-Edwards’ critically-acclaimed one woman show will tour the UK in a new production starring Sarel Madziya. The tour will visit York St John, the North Wall Oxford, Liverpool Everyman, Phoenix Exeter and Nottingham Playhouse. Funeral Flowers will also visit several prisons alongside an outreach programme exploring creative responses to the show from inmates.

The Public Theater is now presenting the World Premiere of SUFFS, a new musical with book, music, and lyrics by Public Theater Artist-in-Residence Shaina Taub, music direction and music supervision by Andrea Grody, choreography by Obie Award winner Raja Feather Kelly, and direction by Tony Award nominee Leigh Silverman. Stage and Screen Actor William Hurt Dies at 71

While best known for his roles in film, Hurt got his start on the stage in the 1970s. He appeared on Broadway in Hurlyburly in 1984, for which he was nominated for a Tony Award. Hurt also performed in various off-Broadway productions including Henry V, Fifth of July, Richard II and A Midsummer Night's Dream.
