The Old Globe has announced a one-week extension for the Broadway-bound musical Bob Fosse’s Dancin’, with choreography by Bob Fosse and direction and musical staging by Tony Award–winning choreographer Wayne Cilento (Broadway’s Wicked and The Who’s Tommy).

For the first time since 2020, the Aurora Fox Arts Center will present a full season of four mainstage shows and two smaller black box shows. The Aurora Fox’s 38th season will include Joan Didion’s theatrical adaption of her best-selling memoir, “The Year of Magical Thinking;” the Colorado premieres of “Futurity” by César Alvarez and The Lisps and more.

The Lake / nx̌aʔx̌aʔitkʷ, a unique opera documentary about the groundbreaking cross-cultural collaboration between Vancouver’s Astrolabe Musik Theatre, Turning Point Ensemble and Westbank First Nation, has its BC premiere on May 6, 2022, at 7:45 p.m. at the VIFF Centre VanCity Theatre, with a second screening May 12 at 7:45 p.m. at SFU’s Djavad Mowafaghian Cinema, as part of the DOXA Documentary Film Festival. The Lake / nx̌aʔx̌aʔitkʷ is also available for viewing online.

Theatre for a New Audience Postpones Previews for WEDDING BAND

TFANA (Jeffrey Horowitz, Founding Artistic Director) has cancelled the first four performances of its new production of Alice Childress’s Wedding Band, directed by Awoye Timpo, due to two COVID-19 cases discovered through TFANA’s routine testing of the company: April 23 at 7:30pm, April 24 at 7:30pm, and April 27 at 3pm and 7:30pm. The theater plans to begin previews on April 28 and to open on schedule on May 8.

Celebrating its 33rd year and returning to an in-person celebration, the Los Angeles Master Chorale’s annual High School Choir Festival (HSCF), led by Kiki & David Gindler Artistic Director Grant Gershon, will take place at The Music Center’s Grand Park, Friday, April 29, 2022, at 11 a.m. Bringing together 500 high school students from 18 schools, the Festival will feature music from Sam Cooke and Sara Bareilles, to Reena Esmail and Handel. Sixteen singers from the Los Angeles Master Chorale, conducted by Associate Artistic Director Jenny Wong, will also perform.

Stages Theatre Company is set to present a world premiere musical, What Do You Do With An Idea? based on an award-winning book that comes to life on stage this spring! Follow the journey of a young child with the question; 'What DO you do with an idea?' First, they ignore it, but when it won't go away, they nurture it and watch it grow. One day the answer becomes abundantly clear. What Do You Do With An Idea? runs from April 8 - May 8, 2022. The show is appropriate for all ages and is based on the book by Kobi Yamada with illustrations by Mae Besom. The musical features a script by Cristina Pippa, Music & Lyrics by Sharon Kenny, and is Directed by Melanie Salmon-Peterson.
