Impro Theatre brings acclaimed “Tennessee Williams Unscripted” to Edinburgh Fringe Festival

The new Main Company members include expert improv veterans, accomplished theatre performers seen on stages throughout the country, and established actors appearing in dozens of films and TV shows. The Main Company's growth fulfills part of Impro Theatre's goal to expand the artistic voices within the company to better represent the global population and share more stories from different perspectives. 

Impro Theatre and Company of Angels have joined forces to create “Eastside Noir,” an improvised Film Noir that will livestream one night only, May 1, at 8:15 pm PDT for free. “Eastside Noir” is Film Noir reimagined in one of the cities where it originated. 

The NYC premiere of a marvelous musical, Two's a Crowd is now onstage at 59E59 Theaters through August 25. It has a book by Rita Rudner and Martin Bergman, directed by Mr. Bergman, with music and lyrics by Jason Feddy.

The award-winning Impro Theatre continues its 10th Anniversary Season with a one-time-only production of L.A. Noir UnScripted at the Ford Theatres.  The completely improvised performance will take place in the newly renovated 1200-seat amphitheatre in the Hollywood Hills, on October 14 at 8:30pm.

If you have never seen a production of the Impro Theatre Company, be aware that the play you see is one-time only. With the suggestion from an audience member at the top of the name of an heirloom, the actors take it, title the play, and then create the characters and the play totally from scratch. Everything that happens is spontaneous and will never be repeated in another performance. It makes me question what the job of the director, in this case member Brian Lohmann, actually is?

In IMPRO THEATRE'S JANE AUSTEN UNSCRIPTED; seven very talented, quick-thinking members of the Impro Theatre, with only two idea suggestions from the audience, act out (sans script) a hysterical complete beginning-middle-and-end of a tale based on Jane Austen's writings.

To anyone who has not witnessed an Impro Theatre production, a word to the wise: you are about to experience a rare form of brilliance, sometimes seen in improvisation, but especially keen in Sondheim Unscripted, because it not only has an original book but music as well... totally in the style of Stephen Sondheim. A Sondheim composition is known for its incredible range of notes, strident chords, mixed rhythms, fugues, not to mention that his music amazingly conveys the themes or moods of the piece...to the letter. He is a unique composer, impossible to copy...well, Impro surely proves that statement wrong.

Impro Theatre's production featured talented performers with a flare for biting, Austenian wit and an impressive aptitude for physical humor. The performance was swift and dynamic, and it conceptually captured the spirit of Austen's literary universe—without omitting the inherent comicality inevitable in the confluence of modern and antiquated cultures represented simultaneously.

'Jane Austen UnScripted' is a performance-based dalliance into the charmingly erudite world of Austenian wit and social propriety, executed via improvisational implementation.
