What did our critic think of CAMELOT at The Barnstormers?

Merton of the Movies: The Musical, with music by Gary William Friedman (The Me Nobody Knows, Taking My Turn), lyrics by Stevie Holland (Love, Linda: The Life of Mrs. Cole Porter) and Robert Lorick (The Tap Dance Kid), and book by Holland, Lorick and Mel Shapiro (Two Gentlemen of Verona) will have a private industry reading in New York on December 4th.

The historic Sharon Playhouse in Sharon, CT has launched a festival of new ten minute plays and musicals:  Sharon Playhouse Writers Playground. Submissions will be accepted from writers in four different categories from local applicants within 50 miles of the playhouse in Sharon, CT. The submission deadline is May 1, 2021. 

Sharon Playhouse and producer Hunter Arnold unofficially kicked off the holiday season early by announcing that a special filmed version of Charles Dickens' beloved holiday classic A Christmas Carol starring one of the finest stage actors of our time, Tony Award winner Jefferson Mays, will be released worldwide on Saturday, November 28.

Proving the show can go on even during a pandemic, a team of actors, musicians and creatives descended on Sharon, CT to present a live socially distant, drive-in concert of music from the new musical, THE PERFECT FIT, with book, music and lyrics written by 13 year old musical sensation Joshua Turchin.

Live entertainment continues this summer at the Sharon Playhouse as the historic summer theater has converted their parking lot into a Drive In Theater offering live concert performances in compliance with all federal and local health procedures.

In support of live theatre and the Sharon Playhouse in Sharon Connecticut, Broadway's Haley Swindal (Chicago, Jekyll & Hyde) has created a video celebration homage to Judy Garland and Barbra Streisand...recreating their iconic mash up of Happy Days Are Here Again (Milton Ager & Jack Yellen) and Get Happy (Harold Arlen & Ted Koehler).

I witnessed the best stage effects I have ever seen anywhere (including Broadway), when  on Saturday, July 20, I had the pleasure of seeing BEAUTY AND THE BEAST at the Sharon Playhouse, in Sharon, CT!   While this story is likely familiar to most people, the Sharon Playhouse grips the audience right from the start, not merely by elevating the Enchantress into the air, but by having the Young Prince transformed into the Beast, on stage, in front of the whole audience, in a manner of seconds, with effective use of strobe lights, a successful undertaking of a greater magnitude than what people can expect in a typical magic show, much less a musical!  Without providing any spoilers, for those of you familiar with how the story ends, that happens on stage too, right before our eyes, with effective use of strobe lights.  Lighting Designer Jamie Roderick deserves a lot of credit for working what appears like magic, on the stage.  Every show I have seen at Sharon Playhouse has been wonderful, but this is the best!

This fun and family friendly musical, adapted from the original Disney film, brings to life “a tale as old as time” of a selfish prince who is turned into a hideous monster and must win the affection of a beautiful, young girl in order to regain his humanity. This musical includes the classic scores of “Be Our Guest”, “If I Can't Love Her”, “A Change in Me”, the title song “Beauty and the Beast” and many more. The magical musical offers humor, romance, and excitement for all ages.
