Rick Hammerly Biography
Rick Hammerly has worked as a DC-based actor, director, producer and filmmaker since receiving a BA in Theatre from The University of Virginia. In addition, he holds a MA in Arts Management and a MA in Film and Video Production, both from American University.He received the 2003 Helen Hayes Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Resident Musical for his portrayal of Hedwig in Signature Theatre's production of "Hedwig and the Angry Inch," and received nominations as Lead Actor in a Resident Play in 2001, as Prior Walter in "Angels in America: Millennium Approaches" with Signature Theatre and in 1996, for the MetroStage production of "Me and Jezebel," portraying a 78 year old, post-stroke Bette Davis.
His debut film, "signage," which he wrote, directed and produced, has screened in over 60 film festivals world-wide and has received 6 film festival awards, to date:

Most recently he founded Factory 449: a theatre collective, producing its award-winning Capital Fringe production and subsequent full-scale remount of Sarah Kane’s "4.48 Psychosis," Erik Ehn's "The Saint Plays," and "Magnificent Waste" by Caridad Svich. Factory 449 was a 2011 Helen Hayes recipient of the John Aniello Award for Outstanding Emerging Theatre Company.
He currently serves as Factory 449’s Producing Artistic Director and is co-writing "The Ice Child," the company's first original programming, to be produced in May 2012.
