Randy Jones Biography

RANDY JONES

"One of the most beloved entertainers and pop icons from the Disco era, American Music Award winner and multi-platinum recording artist Randy Jones came to embody The Cowboy in Village People in a way that has captured the public imagination for decades." --New York Post

As renowned entertainment writer Liz Smith's choice of all the Village People to achieve individual fame, he has been showered with commendations in his career, including the GEORGIE AWARD -- presented by the American Guild of Variety Artists, multiple BILLBOARD MAGAZINE DANCE FORUM AWARDS, the prestigious GOLDEN LION, Canada's JUNO, The Radio Television Luxembourg RTL DIAMOND AWARD, Germany's BRAVO AWARDS and the Holy Grail of Rock & Roll, the cover of ROLLINGSTONE MAGAZINE, twice!

In January 2008, Kentucky Governor, Stephen L. Beshear paid tribute to Randy Jones in Louisville, by commissioning him the title, "KENTUCKY COLONEL", the highest honor awarded by the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The commission acknowledges Jones as an outstanding ambassador of goodwill and fellowship around the world, as well as his contributions to the community, state and nation, and for his special achievements, his service and accomplishments on behalf of others. The North Carolina native joined other honorary colonels which include Winston Churchill, Ronald Reagan, Bob Hope, Joan Crawford, Johnny Depp, Fred Astaire, Muhammad Ali, and Pope John Paul ll.

"RJ" has sold in excess of 100 million units in his recording and film career. He has starred in the motion pictures "The Gentleman", "Three Long Years", "Beyond the Facade", "A Tale About Bootlegging" and "Can't Stop the Music", among others. He has been featured in countless television programs worldwide. He appears in numerous documentaries such as "When Ocean Meets Sky", "Disco: Spinning the Story", VH-1's Rock Doc "NY77: The Coolest Year in Hell", "The Godfather of Disco" and many others as narrator and interview subject.

In NYC he has starred in the plays "The Madonna Whore: Confessions of a Dirty Mind", "DIDO" and the musicals "Bingo City" with Tony winner Anita Gillette, "Sodom: The Musical" in which he played (gulp!) GOD, and he portrayed all the men in Rosemary Clooney's life in her musical bio-play "I Wanna Be Rosie" at LaMama, ETC. Among the many productions he has toured in are "Meet Me in St. Louis" with Cathy Rigby, "Carousel" with Ed Ames, "Funny Girl" with Carol Lawrence, "Music Man", "Barefoot in the Park", "Will Rogers' Follies", "Chicago", "Applause" and "42nd Street".

His personal appearances run the gamut from a Royal Performance for Queen Elizabeth ll to Trump's Atlantic City Taj Mahal to the 2005 Presidential Inaugural Ball to being a fixture at the annual Kentucky Derby events, not to mention his ongoing 2008 "TICKET TO THE WORLD" international concert tour with dates in Australia, Asia, Europe, North and South America.

On his new CD, the eclectic pop collection, TICKET TO THE WORLD, RJ reveals yet another dimension of his ability which may surprise more than a few people. With wide-ranging material by some of the pop greats, including Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber, Jim Steinman, Depeche Mode, Robbie Williams & Kylie Minogue, Pet Shop Boys, Neil Diamond and a gem by the Bee Gees, he reinvents a set of pop classics in a smooth, sexy style, which has been described as "worldly and versatile", "deliciously executed" and "better than ever!"

As a bonus, TICKET TO THE WORLD is packed with remixes by some of today's hottest remix artists, including Man Parrish, 2Fabu, FC Nond, and Marcos Carnaval & Max2...guaranteed to move your feet and induce "Saturday Night Fever"!

"New York City Boy", "If I Can't Have You", and "Your Disco Needs You!" are each available as CD Maxi-Singles with remixes by Disco DeeJays, Belmond and Parker, FC Nond, Man Parrish and others.
