Melody Chang is an Orlando-based performer, arts administrator, and voice coach experienced in a wide variety of disciplines including opera, musical theater, and classical music who has earned nationwide praise and acclaim for innovation and leadership within the country’s top arts organizations. Melody was previously the director of marketing & managing director of Inland Northwest Opera. She has previously volunteered extensively as a board member for the Spokane Symphony, Communities in Schools of Spokane County, and Spokane Arts.
In addition, she previously as the communications & marketing director for Spokane Valley Summer Theatre and the Idaho Central Spokane Valley Performing Arts Center. Ms. Chang graduated from Washington State University, where she studied voice with Dr. Julie Anne Wieck. In 2021, she created the Chang Heaton Scholarship for Music Excellence to award five first-generation BIPOC college students studying music or theatre with unrestricted funds for items required for theatre/music degrees that aren’t usually covered by traditional scholarships. She was recently recognized as a top ANHPI Mover & Shaker (2022), received a 2021 Women in Business Leadership Award for her work in the arts, and was named YWCA’s 2024 Woman of Achievement in Arts & Culture. She has been regularly seen onstage with Spokane Symphony and Spokane Valley Summer Theatre.
Ms. Chang currently serves as the executive director of the Asian Opera Alliance and the marketing & sales manager for Opera Orlando.
