The ultimate pioneer of post-modern dance, Trisha Brown, is known for her abandonment of classic shapes, twisted choreographic pathways, and the constant contrast of freedom and bondage in dance. Following the choreographer’s death in 2017, Trisha Brown Dance Company continues her legacy through classic stage performances, relocated works on site, and lastly, newly commissioned works for their 2024 Joyce Season.

Since 2010, Black Mountain College Museum + Arts Center (BMCM+AC) has hosted the {Re}HAPPENING inspired by John Cage’s 1952 Theatre Piece No. 1. The 2024 {Re}HAPPENING celebrates the event’s 12th anniversary, featuring a host of artists presenting work throughout the Lake Eden campus.

Trisha Brown Dance Company pays tribute to its legacy and connects new artistic voices in a triple bill program at The Joyce Theater. The season features two focal pieces from Brown's collaboration with Alvin Curran and a brand-new world premiere of the company's first ever choreographic commission by Judith Sánchez Ruíz.

The third time's the charm for Cara Parisi, who was chosen as the 2022 KC SuperStar! The Bishop Miege High School graduate had auditioned for the past two years but won the big prize this time around-a $10,000 scholarship. 

Each year, a well-known celebrity is part of the KC SuperStar final event. Broadway Star Matt Doyle will be joining the Aug. 28 event as host and performer.

Works & Process, the performing arts series at the Guggenheim, will present the world premiere of Third Bird, with a libretto and direction by Isaac Mizrahi, music by composer Nico Muhly (played by Ensemble Signal and conducted by Brad Lubman), choreography by John Heginbotham, and lighting by Brandon Stirling Baker.

The Fisher Center at Bard will present a project that exemplifies its place on the cultural landscape: a new dance setting of the biblical Song of Songs created by the Fisher Center’s internationally celebrated choreographer-in-residence, Pam Tanowitz, with new music from Pulitzer Prize-winning composer David Lang.

After much anticipation following its critically acclaimed 2018 world premiere at the Fisher Center at Bard, Four Quartets will be presented at BAM from Feb 10—12. Along with a score by the renowned Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho played live by The Knights, and iconic painter Brice Marden, choreographer Pam Tanowitz creates a glorious and thrilling performance inspired by T.S. Eliot’s beautiful and mysterious meditation, Four Quartets. These haunting and evocative poems emerged in 1943 from the chaos of World War II as hopeful testaments to the redemptive power of spirituality, art, and human goodness in the darkest of times. Tony Award–nominated Kathleen Chalfant (Angels in America, Wit) performs Eliot’s text live on stage with the dancers who effortlessly elevate contrasts in dynamics, space, and form by pivoting large ensemble works with transcendent duets and riveting solos.

Jennifer Campos Productions in Association with Play-PerView Theatrical will present Talene Monahon's JANE ANGER or The Lamentable Comedie of JANE ANGER, that Cunning Woman, and also of Willy Shakefpeare and his Peasant Companion, Francis, Yes and Also of Anne Hathaway (also a Woman) Who Tried Very Hard.

Theatre Tuscaloosa is participating in the global fundraising event All Together Now!, arranged by licensing company Music Theatre International. Held on the weekend of November 12-14, this special concert performance is meant to help theatres across the globe get back on their feet following a year of being shut down.

New Line Theatre, "the bad boy of musical theatre," has announced casting for its 29th season of adult, alternative musical theatre, which opens with the return of the wild, comic rock musical CRY-BABY,  based on the iconic John Waters film, a show which New Line first produced in 2012 in its American regional premiere, running Sept. 26-Oct. 19, 2019. The season continues with the electrifying new rock musical fresh from Broadway, in its regional premiere, HEAD OVER HEELS, a high-energy, adult romp about gender and sexuality, based on a 16th-century novel and using the songs of the 80s rock band The Go-Go's, running March 5-28, 2020. And the season closes with the return of one of New Line's biggest hits, which the New Liners first presented in 2007, the pitch dark satire URINETOWN, the hilarious, outrageous fable of greed, corruption, love, revolution, and urination, running June 4-27, 2020.

Today the Merce Cunningham Trust announces Summer & Fall 2019 programming for the worldwide Merce Cunningham Centennial, which unites artists, companies, and cultural and educational institutions in a celebration of Cunningham's vital impact. Launched in the fall of 2018 and continuing throughout all of 2019, the Centennial honors Cunningham's legacy across continents and artistic disciplines. The diversity of activities and participating partners demonstrate the profound, enduring resonance of the choreographer's work and his approach to how the body moves in time and space.
