IAMA Theatre Company New Works Festival will present staged readings of six new plays over the course of two weekends in the fifth edition of this annual series.

Produced by Thomas Kail, who directed the Broadway smash “Hamilton” and produced and directed the 2020 film version, and Kate Sullivan, the film reunites Kail and Ambudkar who first collaborated as director and performer, respectively, of the improvisational hip-hop comedy musical group Freestyle Love Supreme. An ant who wishes to explore the world beyond her family's territory, a grandmother and granddaughter superhero duo and a helpful house spirit are among the cast of characters found in the fourth installment of Ghostlight Ensemble's Make/Believe short play festival for young audiences this year.

Co-written, co-executive produced and starring Utkarsh Ambudkar (“Ghosts,” “Free Guy”), who co-wrote the film’s original songs, this Disney+ Original Movie reunites Thomas Kail and Ambudkar who first collaborated as director and performer, respectively, of the improvisational hip-hop comedy musical group Freestyle Love Supreme.

The Echo Theater Company has moved the previously announced Echo LABFest 2022, readings of seven new plays developed in the company's Playwright's Lab under the leadership of Brian Otaño and Hannah Wolf, online.

IAMA Theatre Company culminates its first annual, year-long residency for emerging, Los Angeles-based playwrights under the age of 30 with a four-day virtual reading series of six new works developed in the lab. Over the course of the past year, the six writers met on a monthly basis to share and develop their work in a peer-guided format led by under 30 emerging playwright Max Wolf Friedlich.

Thomas Kail, the director of Hamilton, and producer Jennifer Todd partnered to form a new television company. According to Deadline, the duo also signed a multi-year overall deal with 20th Century Fox TV. Kail and Todd will develop for all platforms under Kail's Old 320 Sycamore Pictures banner.

Casting has been announced for the Los Angeles LGBT Center's Lily Tomlin/Jane Wagner Cultural Arts Center's production of the iconic musical Hair. Under the direction of Kate Sullivan with musical direction by Jared Stein, there will be two preview performances on Wednesday, March 25, and Thursday, March 26, at 8pm. Opening is set for Friday, March 27, at 8pm in the Davidson/Valentini Theatre. The regular performance schedule will be Friday and Saturday at 8pm and Sunday at 7pm through April 26.

The Colorado New Play Festival announces full casting for all five readings for the 2019 season. The 22nd Annual Festival, to be held on June 2-8, 2019 in Steamboat Springs, CO, will develop five new works in partnership with City Theatre Company, Curious Theatre Company, The Public Theater, South Coast Repertory and Steppenwolf Theatre.
