BIO
Joanne Froggatt began her screen career in 1996 with a television debut on The Bill, soon followed by her breakout role as Zoe Tattersall in Coronation Street, which she played until 1998. She continued to build her early television résumé with roles in Bad Girls (1999) and the acclaimed one-off drama Danielle Cable: Eyewitness (2003), which earned a BAFTA TV Award nomination for Best Single Drama. Additional early work included the ITV miniseries Island at War (2004), the drama Missing (2006), and fact-based productions such as See No Evil: The Moors Murders (2006) and Joanne Lees: Murder in the Outback (2007). During this period, she also appeared on stage in All About My Mother at the Old Vic Theatre.
Froggatt continued working across television, radio, and film with roles in series such as Robin Hood, Spooks: Code 9, and numerous BBC Radio productions. She made her feature film debut in In Our Name (2010), earning critical acclaim and the British Independent Film Award for Most Promising Newcomer. That same year, she began her most widely recognized role as Anna Bates in Downton Abbey, for which she received Emmy nominations in 2012 and 2014 and won the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress in 2015.
Alongside Downton Abbey, Froggatt appeared in films including Filth, Still Life, and uwantme2killhim?. She expanded into voice work as Wendy in Bob the Builder (2015), and starred in the ITV miniseries Dark Angel (2016) and the film Starfish. In 2017, she took on the lead role in the thriller series Liar, further establishing herself as a dramatic lead.
In recent years, Froggatt has continued her stage and screen work, appearing in the play Alys, Always (2019) and starring in the apocalyptic thriller series Last Light (2022). In 2025, she joined the cast of the drama series MobLand, playing Jan DaSouza opposite Tom Hardy, further solidifying her presence in high-profile television projects.
