Ian Damont Martin BIO

IAN DAMONT MARTIN (he/him/his or they/them/their) is a theatre/filmmaker who is pleased to serve Haven Theatre as Artistic Director. He is also the Program Manager of Enrich Chicago, an organization that organizes anti-racism learning to realize racial equity in the Chicago arts community. Before Haven, Ian worked with Goodman Theatre, where he completed an Artistic Producing Apprenticeship funded by the Joyce Foundation. He has also worked with Middle Coast Film Festival, Sideshow Theatre Company, the Gift Theatre, Jackalope Theatre, the DuSable Museum, the National Society of Arts and Letters, Indiana University, Ivy Tech Community College, Midsommer Flight, Bloomington Playwrights Project, Youth Theatre Journal, and the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Cincinnati. He received his BA in theatre and drama from Indiana University and his diploma in drama from the School for Creative and Performing Arts in Cincinnati, OH. Ian sends love and gratitude to the women of color who made him the man he is today.

THE ART OF BOWING Comes to The Den Theatre This Week


Haven Chicago continues its 2022-23 season with the World Premiere of Nathan Alan Davis’s THE ART OF BOWING, directed by Ian Damont Martin, Artistic Director of Haven. The meta play, which explores the story of the death of theatre, runs July 12 - August 6, 2023 at Haven’s resident home, The Den Theatre’s Janet Bookspan Theatre.

Haven has announced its 2021-22 Season, new mission statement and select special programs. Bailey will work closely with Ian Damont Martin and Sandra Thompson, both of the Inclusion and Belonging arm of People and Culture. Reporting directly to James Rondeau, Bailey will serve as a member of the senior leadership team. She will officially assume her position at the museum on March 1.
