Art Institute Chicago Announces $10 Million Commitment

Retiring President and Eloise W. Martin DirectorDouglas Druick announced today that The Grainger Foundationhas generously committed to the museum endowment funds of $10 million to realize the long-term vision and ambitions of the Art Institute's Department of Conservation. Founded with a single conservator nearly 60 years ago, the Art Institute's Department of Conservation has now grown to include specialists across all media who help to authenticate, identify, preserve, research, and store our collection, and conservation scientists who focus on materials research of unparalleled intellectual breadth. The department has assumed a central place in all of the museum's activities, contributing to scholarship on our holdings and informing special exhibitions, publications, and education offerings.

CHICAGO-Douglas Druick, President and Eloise W. Martin Director announced today his plans to retire from the Art Institute of Chicago. An internationally recognized scholar and curator who joined the Art Institute in 1985, during his distinguished 30 years of service Druick chaired two of the museum's eleven curatorial departments and led the institution as its president and director since 2011, overseeing many milestones in the museum's illustrious history.

Artist Eldzier Cortor Accepts Art Institute's Legends and Legacy Award Today

CHICAGO – Eldzier Cortor, the painter and printmaker whose iconic images of African American life have made him one of the country's most revered artists, will be honored by the Art Institute of Chicago in February when he receives the museum's Legends and Legacy Award and his work is showcased in the special exhibition Eldzier Cortor Coming Home: Recent Gifts to the Art Institute.
