Charlie Sohne Biography
Charlie Sohne is a recipient of a 2015 Jonathan Larson Grant (with Tim Rosser), a 2014-2014 Dramatists Guild Fellow (with Tim Rosser) and a member of the Lark Play Development Center’s Meeting of the Minds. He has previously had shows workshopped at New York Stage and Film, The O’Neill National Music Theater Conference, The Cherry Lane Theater and The City Theatre’s Momentum Festival, as well as having a show optioned by commercial production company, Olympus Theatricals; he was also a member of the Civilians R&D Group. He’s written book and lyrics for several shows with composer Tim Rosser, including: “The Boy Who Danced On Air” which was seen at the 2013 NAMT Festival of New Works, a 2013 ART/NY Workshop with NYTB, received a 2014 NAMT Writers Residency Grant and was a Finalist for the Richard Rodgers Award; “The Profit of Creation” which was seen at the 2011 Yale Institute for Music Theater (dir. Evan Yionoulis), seen at a private industry reading in NY 2012 (dir. Evan Yionoulis) and underwent development at ASCAP’s 2010 Johnny Mercer Songwriters Workshop”; and “Political Speeches”, seen in the Culture Project’s IMPACT 2012 series. His work with Tim Rosser has been seen in concert at a sold-out 54 Below Show, Birdland, Contemporary Classics at Seattle Rep, Cutting Edge Composers 4 and 5 at Joe’s Pub and 54 Below, A Little New Music at Rockwell in Los Angeles, NYTB at the D-Lounge, NEXT's Emerging Composers Concerts, The Holiday Songbook at the Lincoln Center Library, as well as a BMI Smoker and the BMI Showcase. His song “I’m Just Glad You’re Here” (music by David Gaines) was named one of the Top 25 Songs in the Directory of Contemporary Musical Theater Writers and featured at their concert at Second Stage Theater.
