SheNYC Arts has announced complete casting for the two plays running in rep, September 23 to October 14, by Festival alumni writers at A.R.T/NY Mezzanine Theatre. The plays are Fort Huachuca and Bloodshot.

SheNYC Arts, an organization devoted to producing plays, musicals, and adaptations by writers of marginalized genders and who produces summer theater festivals of work by women/trans writers in NYC, LA, and Atlanta,  will be producing an off-Broadway run of two shows by Festival alumni writers.

Nakisa Aschtiani’s Bismillah, or In the Name of God will be one of the five plays featured in this year’s SheLA Art’s Summer Theatre Festival, performed live July 12th and 15th at the Zephyr Theatre (and available to stream later in the month).

Ailema Sousa’s FORT HUACHUCA will be presented live on stage at the Zephyr Theater July 14th and 16th as part of the 2021 SheLA Summer Theater Festival. Fans of SheLA will have seen an online version of FORT HUACHUCA last year as part of their virtual 2020 SheLA Summer Theater Festival. Ailema found some time between her rehearsals to answer a few of my inquiries. 

In 2021, the Wayward Artist is taking action towards access, inclusion, diversity, and  equity in theater. The Wayward Artist eagerly announces, Wayward Voices. Wayward  Voices is a space to amplify, uplift, and empower BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People  of Color) artists and their communities. The goal is to produce work that inspires and  activates artists now and artists to come.

Set in segregated America, 'Fort Huachuca' follows the lives of five African American women who enlist in the army to train as nurses. They are sent to an army base camp in Arizona, where they embark on one of the biggest challenges of their lives.

It has just been announced that Singer-songwriter and actor Rodney Fitts will take over the coveted role of 'Gregory' in Timothy Allen Smith's new stage drama, 'Choice.' Fitts will star opposite TV legend Joey Jupiter-Levin, who garnered rave reviews as 'Anna' during preview performances earlier this year.

Nakisa Aschtiani, a German-born, Iranian playwright living in California, presents her fourth produced full length play, 'To Each His Own' via the She LA Arts Festival (sister to the SheNYC Arts Festival).

She NYC Arts will present the second annual She LA Arts Summer Theater Festival, a festival featuring five new full-length shows by women playwrights, July 30-August 4 at The Zephyr Theatre (7456 Melrose Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90046).
