Andrew T. Mackay

Andrew is an Olivier Nominated & award-winning British classically trained composer, producer & arranger and the composer of the score of ‘Life of Pi’ currently running on Broadway.

He is the co-founder alongside Garry Hughes of the popular electronica/world music act Bombay Dub Orchestra.

He scored the multi award-winning stage play adaption of 'Life of Pi' for The Crucible Theatre, Sheffield, UK - Directed by Max Webster. The play adapted by Lolita Chakrabarti ran in London's West-End until January 2023 at the Wyndham’s Theatre since opening in November 2021. The play is currently running on Broadway at The Schoenfeld. The West End production in London was filmed by NT Live with a cinema release in March 2023. The soundtrack album was released in August 2022 on his own label imprint the Bohemia Junction Recording Co.

In 2022 he scored the stage play Henry V at the Donmar Warehouse in London’s West-End featuring Kit Harington as Henry.

Andrew studied under Dr William Lloyd-Webber and John McCabe at the London College of Music.

He often fuses orchestral with folk and traditional elements of music from the film's region.

Collaborations include National Award-winning 'Hamid' by Aijaz Khan (and his forthcoming period drama ‘Dvija’), the Marathi feature 'Raakshas' by Dnyanesh Zoting, 'The Music Teacher' by Sarthak Das Gupta as well as 'Long Live Brij Mohan' by Nikhil Bhat. Most of these films can be seen on Netflix. He also scored Sturla Gunnarsson's feature doc 'Monsoon' which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival 2014 and won the Peoples Choice Award for the best Canadian Film of 2014. In 2015 he scored Katherine Kingland's feature documentary 'In Rajasthan' which has gone on to win awards around the festival circuit.

He also recently scored a dance film for UK’s Royal Ballet/Royal Opera House.

His debut feature score for the film 'Little Box Of Sweets' by writer/director Meneka Das won the Grand Jury Award for Best Music at HBO’s South Asian International Film Festival of New York in 2008. He has also produced several films including the award winning short 'La Lune Folle' which is streaming on Prime in the UK & US and 2022's 'We've Only Just Begun' also by Meneka Das which recently screened at the BFI in London and Cinequest in San Diego.

Andrew was the Director of India's first ever Composers Lab which started in 2013 as part Mumbai Film Festival in association with Abbey Road, PRS for Music UK and supported by BMI.
