Based on Elizabeth Spencer’s 1960 novella, this poignant musical tells the story of Margaret Johnson, a wealthy Southern woman, and her daughter Clara, who faces developmental challenges due to a childhood accident. As the two spend a transformative summer in Florence, Clara falls in love with a young Italian man, Fabrizio, prompting Margaret to confront her own deep-seated hopes, fears, and regrets about her daughter's future.
Winner of six 2005 Tony Awards, including Best Original Score, The Light in the Piazza is brought to life under the direction of the lauded Ayọ̀ Demps, with music direction by the talented Philip King. Don’t miss this beautiful tale of love and self-discovery, with three performances at The Plaza Live: November 15 at 8:00 PM, and November 16 at 2:00 PM and 8:00 PM.
