The Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts announces tickets on sale Friday, January 15, 2016 for longtime comedians Steve Martin and Martin Short in An Evening You Will Forget for the Rest of Your Life, appearing one-night only at 8 p.m. in the Walt Disney Theater on Saturday, April 23. Tickets start at $55.00 an may be purchased by calling the Dr. Phillips Center Box Office or by visiting the Box Office at 445 S. Magnolia Avenue, Orlando, FL 32801 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, or 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are also available by calling 844.513.2014 or online at drphillipscenter.org. Online and phone ticket purchases include handling fees.

Going to the theater is an intimate experience. We are pulled out of our everyday lives and isolated realities to immerse ourselves collectively in a story. We give over the reigns of control for a set amount of time and just absorb. On rare occasions, we find a story that moves us so thoroughly that we see the world from a different perspective when we awake from the dreamlike state. Mark St. Germain's latest masterpiece, DANCING LESSONS, is one of those compelling stories. It opened at the Orlando Shakespeare Theater this weekend with sold out performances.

There is something both familiar and jarring about the brand new North American tour of THE SOUND OF MUSIC, running at Orlando's Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts through Sunday, January 10th. While the beloved musical about a nun turned governess still has all of the iconic songs by Richard Rodgers (music) and Oscar Hammerstein II (lyrics), including 'My Favorite Things,' 'Do-Re-Mi (complete with solfege hand signs),' and the title song, this production focuses more intently on the real-world danger that the Trapp family faced leading up to the outbreak of World War II.

When the glorious national tour of the beloved Rodgers and Hammerstein musical THE SOUND OF MUSIC sets up shop at Orlando's Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts tonight, it will be a homecoming of sorts for one of the show's leading ladies. I am a Scrooge when it comes to Christmas time. I'm that person who hasn't seen any holiday classic movies. I decorate enough to blend into society and usually only listen to Christmas music on rotation at your favorite theme park. So it takes a lot to warm the coldness of my heart and while Garden Theatre's MIRACLE ON 34th STREET did not turn me into a nostalgic mess, it did allow me to appreciate the meaning of the holidays.

BWW Review: UCF Seniors Leap for the Stars in Dream Roles Concert

What could be more exciting than a stage full of musical theatre students performing the roles they dream to play in the decade that lies ahead? Answer: Absolutely nothing. I was one of the fortunate audience members to share in the experience of night two of the Dream Roles Concert, performed by the UCF BFA Musical Theatre Senior Class (with half the class performing on December 12 and the other half on December 13). From the opening medley to the finale, all of the students had stars in their eyes and a fire in their hearts. UCF is known for attracting impressive talent and I can only imagine the pride felt by the staff, family and friends in the audience. I only wish I'd witnessed night one to have captured the complete essence of the pseudo recital.
