Mad Cow Theatre is proud to announce that it has received a $10,000 grant from Walt Disney World Resort. The not-for-profit theater, the only professional theatre company in downtown Orlando, will use the grant to take one of the staged readings from its upcoming Science Play Festival to local schools, with the goal of teaching students the many connections between science and art.
"We are thrilled to receive this funding from Walt Disney World," said Mitzi Maxwell, Mad Cow Theatre's executive director. "It's been a goal to bring our Science Play Festival to young people, and through this grant, we will be able to engage students in the intersection of science and art, bringing their awareness of the creative process front and center."
Mad Cow is among about 120 organizations throughout Orange, Osceola, Seminole, Lake and Polk counties to receive a grant and a "Mousecar" award. In all, more than $5.6 million in Disney grants will be awarded to support efforts to improve the lives of more than 300,000 local children and their families.
The grants help Central Floridians through a variety of services such as after-school programs for students, bonding activities for new parents and anti-bullying awareness skills. Founded by four Central Florida theatre artists in 1997, Mad Cow Theatre continues to support the belief that the theatre is a dynamic and powerful means of social understanding, as well as a hugely entertaining art form. Mad Cow makes its home in two intimate theatre spaces at 54 W. Church St. (second floor) in downtown Orlando. Its 14th annual Orlando Cabaret Festival will take the stage April 22 - May 8, while Eugene O'Neill's Long Day's Journey Into Night runs through April 17.
