Canal Park Playhouse Presents PROPERTIES OF PLAY

By: Mar. 17, 2011

Canal Park Playhouse, an Intimate home for Theater and Cabaret is delighted to bring you Playing With Reality's Properties of Play, which brings the art of improvisation to a new dimension. Like jazz musicians playing off each other, this improvisational troupe uses their unique nurturing techniques to invite 3 non-actor audience volunteers into 3 spontaneously created 30 minute "plays" each evening. The volunteers are not simply part of these plays, they are the principal characters- the stars of each play.

They invent most of the dialogue and drive the story line. The Playing With Reality team seamlessly helps the volunteers release the latent improvisational "actor" within each of them. Theater Online called the evening "Absolutely incredible, touching and funny... intense and emotional.... you never know what is going to happen. ... The beauty of live entertainment- where anything is possible". Tickets are $10 and on sale now. They can be purchased at www.canalparkplayhouse.com .

Canal Park Playhouse is an intimate venue for theater and cabaret which opened November 3, 2010. It will offer a hurly, burly mix of entertainment each week including one and two character plays, the best of New York City's Subway and street entertainers, classic vaudeville acts from plate spinners to magicians to ventriloquists and Children's shows with waffle/oatmeal brunches every weekend. Performances range in price from free to $25. Canal Park Playhouse is located in the landmarked 1826 Canal House, adjacent to the recently restored Canal Park. It has two venues- The Front Room and The Back Room. The Front Room, with cabaret chairs and tables, seats 35 and houses the concession stand which also serves beer and wine. The Back Room is furnished with upholstered theater seats salvaged from the legendary Sullivan Street Playhouse. It
seats 58, has a proscenium stage with raked seating and charming 1826 architectural character.

Both rooms feature state of the art lighting and sound. Canal Park Playhouse will be home to a variety of entertainment options between the two spaces. The Play Series will showcase one and two character plays in the form of new work and revivals. The Canal Park Playhouse Children's Matinees will be a series of children's performances Saturdays and Sundays at noon and 2pm. These shows will be in the spirit of classic clowning and vaudeville performers. In addition to the CPP Play series and the Children's Brunch Series Canal Park Playhouse will feature a series of New York City's best Subway and Street Performers weekly. Fridays from 3:30 to
6PM The Front Room will be an open mic for 13-20 year olds. All performers and customers will be carded for proof of age.

The rest of the week at The Playhouse will be rounded off with a series of variety, silent films, music and Cabaret performances, readings and events. For more information about Canal Park Playhouse, please visit www.canalparkplayhouse.com.
