'Miami Beach - The Musical' Opens at Arts at St. Johns, 10/1

Palm Beach Dramaworks Announces 4th 'Master Playwright Series'

Barry Ingham has appeared on both the West End and Broadway starring in such classics as The Magistrate and Tartuffe and original productions of Aspects of Love and Jekyll & Hyde. As a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company, Mr. Ingham appeared in several productions including Julius Caesar, Twelfth Night, and Winter's Tale. He was professor at the University of Texas at Austin, theatre consultant to Baylor University and is artistic advisor to the Shakespeare Society of New York.

American Stage Theatre Company has announced that they have hired Jamie Cataldo as the theatre's new director of development. Cataldo takes over the department from Angela Bond, who was with the theatre for slightly less than two years.

Along with revealing their crowd-pleasing line-up for the 20101-2011 season, the Boca Raton Theatre Guild has also announced it will now offer competitive compensation for actors, an occasional Equity contract, and will continue to employ top-notch directors such as Genie Croft. 'I see this as a major move forward in our evolution,' says BRTG Artistic Director Keith Garsson. 'We've been thinking along these lines for a while now, and the success we had with this summer's run of The Year of Magical Thinking with (Equity member and Carbonell Award winning actress) Angie Radosh just confirmed it - our audiences demand and enjoy quality. We believe this new policy will be attractive not only to our audiences, but to actors and directors as well.'
Orlando Shakespeare Theater Brings Mouse Lilly To The Stage

The play, for ages 5 and up, follows the story lines of three of Henkes' much loved books, Chester's Way, Julius, Baby of the World, and Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse. 'Lilly and her friends are charismatic personalities, and kids can easily relate to those characters and the events that occur throughout the play,' says Anne Hering, Orlando Shakes Director of Education. 'Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse focuses on lessons about family, friendship, behavior, responsibility, forgiveness, learning from mistakes, and it celebrates the power of imagination.'

Bay Street Players will hold auditions for The Trial of Ebenezer Scrooge on Tuesday, September 28th at 7:30PM at 109 N. Bay Street, Eustis. Director Joel Warren is looking for 6 males and 2 females ages 18-60 who have strong comedic timing. Those auditioning will read from the script. Newcomers are welcome. Anyone not interested in performing onstage is invited to join our team of volunteers and to learn of backstage opportunities needed for this production.

Miami City Ballet Performs At NYC's City Center

Miami City Ballet has been selected to make its debut at the 2010 Fall for Dance Festival at New York's City Center September 28th and 29th, 2010. The company will perform Twyla Tharp's 'The Golden Section.' The festival, running September 28th - October 9th, 2010, will showcase 20 dance companies and choreographers from across the United States and around the world. Miami City Ballet is one of ten dance companies making their debut in the festival. 'We are thrilled to perform, as it builds on our ongoing successful relationship with New York City Center, where the company made its debut in 2009,' said Edward Villella, founding artistic director and CEO of Miami City Ballet.

The legendary 'supergroup' of David Crosby, Stephen Stills and Graham Nash also known as CSN has just been added to the 2010-11 season at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall. They will be performing for one night only on Tuesday, September 28. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 7. The Van Wezel Box office has new summer hours; Monday-Friday from 10am to 3pm and closed on weekends.

The Bay Street Players announce the opening production of The Bay Street Project 2010-2011 series. The first of the five show series opens Sept. 26 for three performances only. This Alternative production series starts off with the savory, savage backstage comedy 'Anton in Show Business' by Jane Martin. An all-female cast performs multiple roles (including men) in this uproarious comedy about an egotistic television actress, a jaded New Yorker and an eager ingénue brought together for an ill-fated production of Anton Chekhov's The Three Sisters in San Antonio, Texas. Anton takes aim at producers, directors, surgically beautified actors, crass sponsors, critics and even such sacred topics as multiculturalism, and satirizes, celebrates and challenges the importance of theatre as an art form today. There is a 7:30 curtain for the three consecutive Sunday shows on September 26, October 3 and October 10.

Opening this weekend at the Stage Door, and running until September 26, is the musical 'Mack and Mabel.' At the helm is director Michael Leeds (Tony nomination 'Swingin' on A Star'), who was a performer in the first National Tour with Bernadette Peters. Consequently, he has a special affinity for the show and was able to convince Jerry Herman to give him some leeway on new approaches and changes to for this production. 'I didn't get everything I wanted,' says Leeds with a laugh, ' but he was kind enough to give me a lot, including the ending that was eventually used on the tour, but not on Broadway.'
