Children in grades K-12 have a reason to celebrate this spring and summer break: the return of the Theatre's popular Conservatory of Performing Arts camp programs!

With a flexible schedule that includes optional pre-care and after-care, budding young performers will participate in a broad range of theatre-related activities, including acting, dancing, singing, prop-making, improvisation, storytelling and more. Each summer camp will conclude with a themed performance on the Theatre's main stage.

"Our vacation camps have something for everyone, from dance, magic and musical theatre to outer space," said Julie Rowe, director of education for the Conservatory. "Our goal is to make sure that all of our students have fun, build confidence, express their creativity and have the opportunity to experience being part of a performance."

A great way to introduce young children to theatre, the Conservatory's vacation camps include a Harry Potter-themed spring break camp and Junior and Senior Conservatory summer camps (grades 3-5 and 6-12) that will culminate in full performances of the musicals Honk, Jr. and Footloose.

"Honk Jr. tells the classic story of an ugly duckling - and brings a message of acceptance and self esteem," Rowe said. "It gives young ones the opportunity to explore characters in a fun and exciting way. Since all of the characters are barnyard animals, it also provides a fantastic outlet for imagination and creativity."

Meanwhile, Footloose, a stage adaptation of the 1984 film, offers a message of tolerance and celebrating life.

"Footloose is all about dealing with adversity in a positive way, and the '80s music in the show is fast, fun and will be a joy to work on," Rowe said. "Both Honk Jr. and Footloose focus on character development from a personal standpoint, which is essential for performers of all ages."
