WEST SIDE STORY to Open 9/4 at Ogunquit Playhouse

West Side Story, one of the greatest love stories of all time, opens on the Ogunquit Playhouse stage September 4 through September 28. This all new production of the timeless classic, helmed by Broadway veteran director BT McNicholl, mesmerizes audiences of all ages from the first note to the final breath. The Bernstein and Sondheim score is considered to be one of Broadway's finest and features beloved American musical theatre classics including "Something's Coming," "Tonight," "America," "I Feel Pretty" and "Somewhere." With a set designed exclusively for the Ogunquit Playhouse by Michael Schweikardt, an extraordinary cast and an iconic score soaring throughout, theatre goers will fall in love with West Side Story all over again.

Theater at Monmouth's 44th season continues with the opening of Gilbert and Sullivan's comic opera, Patience, or Bunthorne's Bride on Friday, September 20 at 7:30 p.m. The society ladies in the village are mad for aesthetic poets but the poets are in love with Patience, the village milkmaid. The young ladies' military suitors see no point to overblown verses but give it a try to win back the ladies' hearts. Things are touch and go for a while but in the end everyone lands a suitable partner, even if it is only a tulip or lily.

On Sunday, August 4, 2013, in Freeport, Maine, the Freeport Players delivered a lively, riotously funny and highly inventive performance of the suspense comedy, The 39 Steps, adapted by Patrick Barlow from the John Buchan novel and Alfred Hitchcock film. Using four actors in multiple roles, a minimalist set, and a vintage radio era sound design, the production directed by Portland Stage's dramaturg, Daniel Burson, romped through the script with delightful insouciance.
