Portland Ovations will present Fred Garbo's Inflatable Theater Company for a Family Series performance at the Westbrook Performing Arts Center on Saturday, November 16 at 1pm.

Fred Garbo has been a professional performer since 1974. He was the acrobat inside Barkley the Dog on Sesame Street. On Broadway, he was the chief juggler in the musical Barnum. He toured Europe, Hong Kong and Australia with the Obie Award-winning Foolsfire. He has tumbled for the New York City Opera at Lincoln Center, danced with MOMIX in Brazil, and was even featured on David Letterman's Late Night. For more than two decades he has been inventing inflatables with artist/builder George York and trained and performed with Tony Montanaro.

With a gymnast's timing and an actor's presence, Maine's own Fred Garbo brings his Inflatable Theater Company to life on stage, astounding and tickling audiences with pop-action inflatables of all shapes and sizes combined with mime, juggling, and acrobatics. He teams with world-class dancers to create a fast-paced, energetic, universally engaging and theatrically clever performance that makes audiences gasp and laugh out loud, mesmerizing old and young alike with imaginative imagery and artistic foolishness. The New York Times calls Fred Garbo's Inflatable Theater Company, "...skillful...joyful...buoyant entertainment!"

Fred Garbo teams with three dancers, Daielma Santos, Molly Gawler and Nettie Gentempo for his Portland Ovations performance. Daielma Santos trained at the Royal Academy of Dance of London and is both a choreographer and dancer. Molly Gawler grew-up in Maine and just got off the road performing with Pilobolus in the work Shadowland. Nettie Gentempo, also from Maine has danced her entire life studying under instructors such as Juliette Lauzier of Maine State Ballet and formed her own company Nevaeh Dance Company.

On Saturday, November 9th from 11am to 12pm at the Portland Public Library, Ovations Offstage offers a hands-on family cirque workshop with Fred Garbo of Fred Garbo's Inflatable Theater Company. For more information please call 207.773.3150 or email offstage@portlandovations.org
