Defy Theatre announces its first ever production, Spring Awakening, performing this August and September at the Noho Arts Center. Spring Awakening tells the story of eleven children as they face the challenges of adolescence and discovery in a strict society. Written by Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater, this musical explores themes very relevant to our modern day. Newcomer director and Defy Theatre founder Michael Kozachenko has been wanting to do this show for a long time now, and is pleased that the NoHo Arts Center has given him the opportunity to express himself in this amazing work. "This is a story that needs to be told. This musical dives into taboo themes, teenage sexuality, abuse, and parent-child communication. We are here to tell this story so that consequences that happen in the show do not have to happen in real life."
