Bay Street Theater Announces Summer Theater Camps And Teen Master Classes This July And August

Bay Street Theater & Sag Harbor Center for the Arts is pleased to announce Summer Theater Camps and Teen Master Classes this July and August. Bay Street Theater will offer camps and classes for children and teens ages 4 - 18 that are taught by professional teaching artists and theater industry professionals. Enrollment is now open, and available online at baystreet.org, or by calling Bay Street Theater's Education Department at 631-725-0818.

Bay Street Theater's Summer Theater Camps are weeklong programs taught by professional Teaching Artists, offered to children in age groups that range from 4-12. Topics include Musical Theater, Puppetry, Improv Comedy, and more. All Summer Theater Camps operate from 9:30 am - 12:30 pm Monday-Friday.

Bay Street Theater's Teen Master Classes are one-day workshops offered to teens ages 13 - 18, taught by industry professionals. Topics covered include Musical Theater Audition Techniques, Directing, Shakespeare, Play Analysis, and more. All Teen Master Classes operate from 10:30 am - 1:30 pm daily

More information and enrollment forms can be found online at www.baystreet.org. All classes and camps end with an opportunity for parents and friends to see a brief performance, and hear about the process.

Summer Theater Camps at Bay Street Theater - All camps run 9:30 am - 12:30 pm Monday - Friday.

My Life: The Musical
Ages 9 - 12: July 9 - 13 and August 13 - 17
Ages 7 - 9: July 16 - 20 and August 6 -10
Teaching Artist: Kristen Poulakis (all except August 13 - 17 camp. August 13 - 17 Teaching Artist to be announced)
In this camp, students will work together to create and perform their very own musical! In addition to developing ideas for an original script, students will learn standard songs and choreography that will culminate in a presentation on the Bay Street Theater Mainstage on Friday for family and friends. Students will receive instruction in acting, singing, dance, and musical theater history; as they also participate in creative theater games and improvisations that help to develop communication skills and encourage them to stretch their imaginative abilities.
Kristen Poulakis is a vocal coach, piano instructor and songwriting advocate for students of all ages. She teaches privately here on the East End of Long Island when she's not in the theatre. She taught several styles of dance at the Dance Centre of the Hamptons. Kristen co-owned/directed two musical theatre companies, ACT Out East as well as East End Children's Theatre company at the Vail Leavitt Music Hall where she produced several musicals.

Greek Mythology Camp
Ages 4 - 7: July 23 - 27
Teaching Artist: Kristen Poulakis
Have you ever wondered what would happen if Aphrodite, the goddess of love, and Poseidon, the god of the sea, teamed up to pull a prank on Zeus, the king of all Greek gods? Find out in this brand new camp that lets campers use their imagination to play with and create their very own versions of the classic Greek Myths. This camp will culminate in a presentation of the campers' original stories for family and friends to come see!
Kristen Poulakis is a vocal coach, piano instructor and song writing advocate for students of all ages. She teaches privately here on the East End of Long Island, when she's not in the theatre. She is also a choreographer and dancer. She taught several styles of dance at the Dance Centre of the Hamptons. Kristen co-owned/directed two musical theatre companies, ACT Out East as well as East End Children's Theatre company at the Vail Leavitt Music Hall where she produced several musicals. Kristen's formal training in dance and voice began in Boston, where she grew up, as well as at the Broadway Dance Centre in Manhattan. She attended the prestigious colleges, The Boston Conservatory of Music as well as The Berklee School of Music. She inevitably decided to make the move out West to graduate from a buddhist based college, Naropa University in Boulder Colorado where she earned a degree in Vocal Performance and Music Therapy.

Remix Shakespeare
Ages 7 - 9: July 30 - August 3
Teaching Artist: Bethany Dellapolla
Come play with some of Shakespeare's most classic stories and make them your own! Campers will stretch their imaginations and explore creative ways of expressing the popular themes and language of The Bard. The camp will culminate in a presentation of the campers' original work for family and friends to attend.
Bethany Dellapolla is an actress, teacher, director, and choreographer based in New York Ciry and Long Island. She is the co-founder of NexGen Youth Theater, a youth theatre company based out of New York City.

Yes And...Improv!
Ages 9 - 12: August 6 - 10
Teaching Artist: To be announced
Do you like Improv games? In this brand new camp, students will learn about what makes these improvisational games so fun and how the world of Improv relates to the world of Theater! Students will work with a teaching artist as they experiment with different forms of improvisation and use their imagination to create their very own exercises. The camp will culminate in an Improv show for family and friends to attend.

Puppet Power Camp
Ages 4 - 7: August 13 - 17
Teaching Artist: Liz Joyce
In this camp, students will have the unique opportunity to learn about and play with a variety of puppets. In addition to attending a professional puppet show here at Bay Street Theater, campers will work with Goat on a Boat Puppet Theater's Liz Joyce to build their own puppets, sets, and scenery for an original camper-created puppet show for family and friends on Friday.
Liz Joyce is an award-winning puppeteer and founder of Goat on a Boat Puppet Theater based out of Bay Street Theater.

Shakespeare Mini-Mainstage
Ages 9 - 12: August 20 - 24
Teaching Artist: Tony Tambasco
Students will explore an abridged, kid-friendly version of a Shakespeare play, culminating in a presentation on Bay Street Theater's Mainstage on Friday for family and friends. As students gain basic instruction in acting, they will become familiar with the classic language, characters, and comedy of The Bard.
Tony Tambasco is an associate member of the Stage Directors and Choreographer's Society, and holds an MFA in directing and an M.Litt in Shakespeare and Performance from the American Shakespeare Center's partner program with Mary Baldwin University, with undergraduate degrees in Theatre, English, and Computer Science from SUNY Potsdam.


Teen Master Classes at Bay Street Theater - All classes open to teens ages 13-18. Classes run 10:30 am - 1:30 pm on select Tuesdays in July and August.

Musical Theater Audition Techniques
Vocal: Tuesday, July 10
Dance: Tuesday, July 24
Teaching Artist: Bay Street Theater's Education Coordinator, Michael Canestraro
Students will learn how to best prepare and present themselves in a professional Musical Theatre audition situation as ether vocalists or dancers as well as exploring what directors and choreographers are looking for in Musical Theatre performers.
Michael Canestraro is a member of AEA and Lincoln Center Theatre's Directors Lab and has appeared in five Off?Broadway Musicals. He is currently serves as the Education Coordinator for Bay Street Theater.

Shakespeare's Classic Scenes
Tuesday, July 31
Teaching Artist: Tony Tambasco
Gain first-hand experience analyzing and experimenting with a classic scene from Shakespeare. Students will work on tackling the language and meter as well as characterization and stage directions of The Bard's most well-known works.

Play Analysis/Scene Study
Tuesday, August 14
Teaching Artist: Bay Street Theater's Associate Artistic Director, Will Pomerantz
In this class, students will work with a teaching artist in analyzing a classic scene both on page and on the stage. Students will gain an understanding of scene structure and characterization and how these analyses are conveyed on stage.
Will Pomerantz has directed and developed new plays and musicals with such theatres as The Guthrie, American Repertory Theatre, 2nd Stage, Playwrights Horizons, The Public Theatre, Hartford Stage, New York Theater Workshop, The Signature Theatre, The Mark Taper Forum and The Kennedy Center. He has directed world premieres by such playwrights as John Guare, David Auburn, Neil LaBute, Craig Lucas, Kia Corthron, and David Lindsay-Abaire. His productions have won Eliot Norton and Independent Reviewers of New England Awards, a Lucille Lortel Award, Broadway World Awards, and a Drama Desk nomination. Will is Associate Artistic Director for Bay Street Theater.

Directing
Tuesday, August 21
Teaching Artist: Bay Street Theater's Artistic Director, Scott Schwartz
Imagine learning how to direct theater from a Broadway professional! In this class, students will work collaboratively in learning and experimenting with the fundamentals of directing. Students will work in groups to block and perform various scenes.
Scott Schwartz is the Artistic Director of Bay Street Theater as well as an internationally known artist. His work has been seen on and Off Broadway, across the United States, in Great Britain, Europe and Asia. Currently, his production of Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame is running in both Japan and Germany.

Making a Monologue
Tuesday, August 28
Teaching Artist: To be announced
Students will learn the fundamentals of playwriting as they write and perform their very own monologue for an original character.
