Please prepare up to two pieces of material. Your entire audition including introduction, time with pianist, and performing your piece(s) should total around 5 minutes. If auditioning for a Musical, please prepare a short song selection(s) no more than one verse/one chorus each. Contemporary or late-20th-century musical theatre encouraged. Bring printed accompanist music three-hole punched in a binder. Accompanist provided.
If auditioning for AND THEN THERE WERE NONE, please prepare a monologue(s) from a modern or mid-20th-century play. Keep each piece one minute or less. No Shakespeare or classical works (e.g. Molière, Greek/Roman texts). Contemporary realism or heightened realism is welcome. Bring a physical headshot/resume. These will not be returned.

COALHOUSE WALKER JR: (THIS ROLE HAS BEEN CAST. WE ARE STILL ACTIVELY LOOKING FOR AN INTERNAL AND/OR EXTERNAL UNDERSTUDY.) Age 25-35. A proud and talented pianist. A Black man who believes that he can take part in the new America and will be treated fairly. Vocal range: A4–G2.
SARAH: Age 20-25. Washwoman. Sarah is a young Black woman, beautiful and filled with a strong will to live, fueled by an innocent spirit. Falls deeply in love with Coalhouse after much resistance. Vocal range: G#3–F#5.
MOTHER: Age 30-40. The consummate wife and mother. A kind woman with incredible moral fiber. Refined, intelligent, graceful and open minded. Vocal range: G3–F#5.
FATHER: Age 30-45. Mother's professionally successful husband. Fancies himself an amateur explorer, he is commanding and attractive. Enjoys being the family breadwinner, a traditionalist. Vocal range: A2–F4.
YOUNGER BROTHER: Age 20-25. Mother's younger brother. He is an erratic and passionate soul, a firework waiting to be lit. Influenced greatly by Goldman's teachings. Vocal range: B2–F#4.
GRANDFATHER: Age 60-80. Mother's patrician father. He is a retired professor and easily irritated by nearly everything.
TATEH: Age 35-45. A Latvian immigrant. He wears the trials and tribulations of his past on his sleeve but remains optimistic that he will be successful. Full of genuine drive and heart. He lives for his little daughter. Vocal range: Bb2–F#4.
BOOKER T. WASHINGTON: Age 45-55. Brilliant Black social activist. He is an eloquent and articulate gentleman with no patience for Black Americans leading less than exemplary lives. Vocal range: D3–Eb4.
EMMA GOLDMAN: Age 35-45. Social activist. Originally from Russia, she is a leader, a fearless advocate for the oppressed. Vocal range: B3–D5.
EVELYN NESBIT: Age 20s-40s. Beautiful vaudeville performer. Thrust into the limelight after the high-profile murder of her lover, the entire world is her stage. Vocal range: B3–D5.
HARRY HOUDINI: Age 25-35. The famous magician, originally from Hungary. With notable physical ability, he stands as a symbol of the 'American Dream.' Vocal range: E3–G4.

CLAUDE & OTHERS: Age 40-60. The gregarious and well-liked Mayor of Gander, Newfoundland. Claude loves his work, the townspeople and his daily traditions, but he's never had to deal with a crisis of this magnitude before. Doubles as Derm and Brenda’s Brother, Eddie. Top: G4.
BONNIE & OTHERS: Age 30-40. A no-nonsense mother of three, Bonnie is the head of the Gander area SPCA. When she discovers animals are trapped on the planes, she stops at nothing to ensure their safety - but in frustration, she often lashes out at those around her. Doubles as Martha. Top: B4.
BEULAH & OTHERS: Age 40-60. The head of the Gander Legion, with a firefighter son, who walks Hannah to her church and prays with her. Doubles as Delores.
OZ & OTHERS: Age 30-50. The quirky constable in the two-person Gander police force. When the town's population suddenly doubles, Oz helps out in unexpected ways. Doubles as Joey, Customs Officer, Mr. Michaels, Terry, Matty, Rabbi, and Head Cardiologist. Top: G4.
JANICE & OTHERS: Age 20-30. An eager new local TV reporter, Janice is thrown into the deep end on her first day. Initially naïve about the world, Janice must face the pain and confusion around her. Doubles as Britney and Flight Attendant. Top: E5.
BEVERLY/ANNETTE & OTHERS: Age 50-60. Beverly: The first female captain for American Airlines Pilot, Beverly Bass has always loved flying, when her world suddenly changes. Annette: A schoolteacher at Gander Academy with an active fantasy life. Doubles as Reporter. Top: C#5.
DIANE & OTHERS: Age 50-60. A traditional divorcee from Texas, who is terrified that her son may have been flying at the time of the attacks. When she finds out that he's safe, she's given a new lease on life and discovers a wilder more carefree side of herself. Doubles as Crystal and Brenda. Vocal range: A3–C#5.
NICK/DOUG & OTHERS: Age 50-60. Nick: An English oil engineer who is focused on his work; Nick's life is turned upside down when he falls for Diane. Doug: An Air Traffic Controller, married to Bonnie, who tries to help his wife and the animals. Doubles as Officer Stephenson, and Male Townsperson. Top: E4.
KEVIN T/GARTH & OTHERS: Age 30-50. Kevin T: The head of an environmental energy company in Los Angeles, Kevin was on vacation with his boyfriend (and secretary, also named Kevin), when they are stranded in Gander. Inspired by the town's generosity, Kevin creates the Pay It Forward Foundation. Garth: The head of the local union, representing the Bus Drivers. Doubles as President Bush. Top: G4.
KEVIN J/ALI & OTHERS: Age 30-50. Kevin J: Kevin's boyfriend and secretary. Sarcastic and unhappy, he wants to leave as soon as possible. Ali: An Egyptian man traveling to America who experiences isolation and Islamophobia, but who finds a connection to Beulah. Doubles as Dwight.
HANNAH & OTHERS: Age 40-60. The mother of a firefighter in Manhattan, Hannah waits for news about her son and is comforted by Beulah. Doubles as Margie and Mickey. Top: E5.
BOB & OTHERS: Age 20s-40s. A hardened New Yorker, Bob is suspicious of where he's landed, fearing that it's World War 3, that someone is going to shoot him and steal his wallet - but instead, he ends up losing his New York jadedness. Doubles as Muhumuza and Captain Bristol.

JUSTICE LAWRENCE WARGRAVE: Age 60s–70s. Male. A retired High Court judge. Highly intelligent, authoritative, and composed, with a sharp moral certainty. Appears rational and calm, even as events become increasingly disturbing.
VERA CLAYTHORNE: Age late 20s–30s. Female. A former governess. Intelligent, capable, and initially self-possessed, but deeply affected by guilt and fear as the story progresses.
PHILIP LOMBARD: Age 30s–40s. Male. A former soldier of fortune. Charming, pragmatic, and morally ambiguous. Cool under pressure, with a dangerous edge.
DR. EDWARD ARMSTRONG: Age 40s–50s. Male. A respected physician. Rational and analytical, attempting to maintain order as events spiral. His authority erodes as fear takes hold.

ZOE MURPHY: Age 18–20s. Female. Sensitive and sophisticated, with a sharp sense of humor, Zoe could care less about the status games and popularity rites of high school. She feels a terrible ambivalence over her brother’s death. Vocal range: F3–E5.
CONNOR MURPHY: Age 18–20s. Male. An angry, disaffected loner, Connor has been a troubled kid for as long as anyone can remember, an enigma and a source of endless consternation to his long-suffering parents. Vocal range: C3–G#4.
CYNTHIA MURPHY: Age 40s–50s. Female. Connor and Zoe’s mother. To Evan, she seems to be the perfect mother, nurturing, available, and willing to talk about anything. To her own children, it’s a bit more complicated. Vocal range: F3–E5.

JARED KLEINMAN: Age 18–20s. Male. Droll and sarcastic, Jared covers his own insecurities with a well-practiced swagger and a know-it-all arrogance. Vocal range: D3–B4.

Vocal range: Tenor / pop-rock sensibility. Ted: Jordan’s ex. Confident, emotionally oblivious, casually cruel. UPS Guy: Brief comic appearance.
TRACK 3 (Blake / Father Mike / Steve / Deb / Zeke / Peculiar Woman / Waiter / Jake / Emily Winters): A high-energy character track requiring rapid shifts in voice, physicality, and point of view. Must handle broad comedy, grounded humanity, and heightened theatricality. Age 30s–60s. Any gender. Blake: Jordan’s best friend; witty, supportive, goth-leaning humor.
