Heidi Duckler Dance is a site-specific contemporary dance company in Los Angeles, founded in 1985 on the belief that the arts can change how we see the world and ourselves. Rather than working on a stage, the company creates performances in and about particular locations, and has produced more than 500 original site-specific works in venues such as the Ambassador Hotel, Los Angeles City Hall and the historic Bendix Building, as well as outdoor art festivals and healthcare facilities. Its stated values are freedom, community and inclusivity, including the freedom to dance at any age or in any place, and it collaborates with local artists. Alongside performance the organization runs contemporary dance education initiatives: school programs, community partnerships, the Bridge career development program for youth, internships, m.a.p. live! and movewell@mlk, which together have served over 10,000 young people and families around more than 25 Los Angeles schools and community centers. It also has a Northwest branch, rents space and produces the 4D Film Festival and Ebb & Flow festivals.
