About this studio
Clairobscur Dance is a Los Angeles-based concert dance company founded by artistic director and resident choreographer Laurie Sefton. The name is the French rendering of chiaroscuro, the painterly term for contrasted light and shadow, reflecting the company's interest in movement that carries a subtext beneath its surface. It creates issue-based contemporary work for traditional theatre venues, film, VR360 and site-specific settings, collaborating with composers, designers and creative technologists, and uses dance to examine universal human questions and conditions. Repertory includes Imminent Drift, Supremacy Ride, Concert Walls, Memory Lapse and Bully. The company is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit and states a formal commitment to inclusion, diversity, equity, access and success.
