About this studio
BODYART is a non-profit contemporary dance organization, led by artistic director Leslie Scott, that creates intimate dance-theater experiences for non-traditional spaces. Its projects combine multi-platform collaboration, audience participation and a blend of digital and physical art, including augmented-reality work such as Remnants and dance films such as Candy Apple. Rather than running a conventional class timetable, BODYART works through performances, tours, creative residencies and masterclasses, and it has toured and collaborated extensively in Chile with the Cooperativa Corredor de Danza Valparaiso. It founded and produces the International Dance Festival New Orleans. A second non-profit arm, BODYART Connects, established in 2017, runs community engagement work including Moving to Heal, a program of trauma-informed movement classes for survivors of domestic and sexual violence.
