American Contemporary Ballet is a professional ballet company based in downtown Los Angeles, performing in its own studio venue near 750 West 7th Street. Its repertory combines classical masterworks with new choreography, with recent seasons featuring The Nutcracker Suite, Inferno, ACB Jazz, Death and the Maiden and Balanchine's Serenade, typically staged with live musicians. Rather than a community class program, the organization trains dancers through a full-season Trainee Program running September to June for ages 18-22, entered by in-person audition. Trainees take company class and rehearsals with the artistic staff, understudy and sometimes perform roles, and work with guest teachers including School of American Ballet master teacher Suki Schorer and Balanchine repetiteur Zippora Karz, with an emphasis on musicality and Balanchine technique.
